I assume the whole BOS thing is a sore subject then? What are you running now? Another very nice build!

Interesting that so many people are putting fairly long travel forks on the TRc. I don’t quite get this. If you are looking for something with 140/150mm travel why not go for an LTc or is it the slacker Head angle that makes it appealing? If that’s the case then I’m going to hang on for the new LTc which I reckon is going to be out in the next few months. Should be like a longer travel TRc with similar HA but higher BB and designed around a 150 or 160 fork

The new LTc should be out (my missus has one) 142mm Rear, slight tweaks & ISCG mounts?.

I’m aiming to stick with 130 maybe 140mm forks, I have a 160/170mm bike already thats too much for the trails here.

Your missus has one? They haven’t even been announced yet. The most significant change will be a slacker head angle. probably slightly revised geometry and bolt through rear.

Which is why I asked the question about the TRC. Is it only the slacker head angle that is the reason for people buying these rather than an LTc for a bike with a 150/160mm fork

The next release of the LTc was released this winter, the one after this will be a couple of years off.
It has 142×12 rear and a number of changes over the original LTc

TrC with a Rev set at 140mm seems sweet to me

Mine has u-turn revs. They spend 90% of their time at 130 or 140, but get wound out for big descents.

    Best of both worlds 🙂

As far as I know the LTc has pretty different geo to the TRc, at least different bb heights which is one of the best (/worst) things about the TRc.

Yep the TR has got a longer TT and lower BB than the LT, Check the SC site though as the LTc was updated this winter. The missus was borderline sizes on the TRc and couldn’t really demo one so ended up with the LTc

I went back to 140mm Revs and RP23. Actually, comparing the VIPR to RP23, I actually preferred the VIPR…cliché but it didn’t use the travel in the same way RP23 does. The VIPR was very fit and forget in terms of service and setup… I was just so pissed about the Forks I spat my dummy out !

I wouldn’t be happy if I spent that much on forks either!

The reason im looking at the TRc is that I have a 150/170mm bike as it is, I’m sure I can get more fun out of a bike with less travel as long as the geometry is similar to what I currently ride. But at the same time it will be better climbing, lighter for lugging around all day. The LTc on the other hand is similar bike to the mega travel wise but not as slack or as low so not really what I’m looking for.

I’m just building a 160mm bike to complement the TRc for similar but opposite reasons. 🙂

    What else are you building?

Does anyone use theirs as their only bike?

I’ve been using mine as my only bike for the last 3 months , although I’ve just built my Butcher back up, wanted to do some uplift days and didn’t want to take the Trc, more for skill compensation 😀

Boxxer7 – use the TRc as ,y everyday bike although am building a soul……a very unique bike I know!!

The TRc is fantastic……forks set at either 110 for trails and general riding but whack it up to 140mm and the bike comes alive in all honesty IMHO.

matt23 – so you run it with less travel up-front than rear for general ridiing. Does it feel mis-matched like that? Although more front, less rear seems fine to me, somehow the reverse seems odd, even if it is only a cm or two.

I use my LTc all year round for all trails and its great, I’ve had yeti 575 in a medium but opted for a large SC LTc and it is honestly best thing I’ve ever ridden. I have a soul for winter but doesn’t really get used much as I cant stay off the SC

I will be using it as my main bike so its good to hear, not much good taking my 4x bike out!

Looking at the build that vital mtb have done they’re running lyriks by the looks of it? Also lower headset cups, what are people using? It’s 1.5 lower I believe so who’s running an internal or external?

I was looking at going internal with 140 Revs. Anyone used the Dual Position Revelations? I know they used to have trouble with the old 2 step system?

I have a dual air (fixed travel) Rev at 140mm with an internal reducer lower cup (Cane creek 40), this gets the head angle a little steeper than with an external cup but still makes it feel hooligan-y enough when the speed picks up. The HA must be about 67.5 like this which is just right for all round use for me.

Jfeb……..it sounds a bit arse backwards but for me it works and to be honest 10mm is 10mm between front and rear. I’m sure people will frown but for me and my TRc it suits me just fine!

Another quick one I’m 5.10 so smack between medium and Large I’ve always gone smaller in the past. What sizes are you guys on and what height?

Get on and try 5’9 and med/poss large but it’s the TT length and seat post angle that change it ( and are different to the LT) Missus is 5’4 ish and was happyish on med.

here’s mine, out for a quick first ride yesterday.

    Very nice.

Did I read that you’d sold your demo bike? Any chance you’ll be getting an alu demo bike, in large?!

    boxxer7

Went and had a look today was offered a ride around the block but they have a demo day at the start of April so I’m going to hold off for that and get a proper ride on a medium and a large back to back. Seriously though that is one light bike! Looks ideal for what I’m after.

I’ve got a feeling that I will be going for a medium as the one I looked at was a large, but I think the medium will be better for getting thrown about.

I don’t think that’s correct. Although the LTc your missus has does have the bolt through rear and ISCG mounts, I don’t believe SC announced it as a new bike – just mid term updates.

I asked SC about this. Their comment was that they slackened the HA of the alu version as it was pretty easy to do, but slackening the HA of the LTc would have been a totally new mould so was too expensive. That why the alu and C versions have different HA’s. The next bit of the response was to the effect of “watch this space” over the next few months.

I’m hoping for a new LTc with a HA of around 67.5 deg based on a 535 A2C fork (160/34). If it doesn’t appear I’ll be buying a Nomad C

OK so it’s a new version but not the one your waiting for, I’ll go with it being a new version then 🙂 It was announced as a new one down under and they ran out all the old stock. Can’t find the tables for the angles but it’s fairly nice and as close to perfect on a trail bike that I have seen. Given SC’s release schedule record it will probably be a year or so.

TrC with 140mm Revs was ace at an uplift day at Stiniog at the weekend, not fazed by anything and felt pretty rapid!

All you TRc owners-any issues with them? Any wee niggles that prospective buyers should note?

No problems with mine, I just got one of the shaped downtube protectors from the US that bolts onto the lower bottle bosses

Bushings on the rear shock have been replaced twice in a year. Only a minor niggle and no hassles getting them replaced.

Anyone running lyriks or 36s at 140mm up front?

Mine eats shock bushings and the shock bolts are pretty soft but other than that it’s been solid. Cranks (170s) get the ends smashed up pretty quickly too due to the low bb.

Just replaced the bushes on my LTc. I replaced them for the Fox low friction styler.
They are pretty good so far.

Had 36’s on mine for a couple of months set to 130mm was excellent, if it was my only bike they would stay on, with the FlowEx wheels the bike tracks very well ,32’s and crests are good but as you would guess dont plow the road like the 36’s 😀
