I’ve been out of this loop for aaaages but who’s the go to for household insurance to cover bikes these days? Back in the day it was Marks and Spencer but they gradually got worse

Direct Line, for instance, want silly money (£1200) with £10k, which is 5 out of 6 bikes undervalued, added on. We’ve got 2 e-bikes (Gazelle Ultimate car replacements) 2 nice touring bikes, my old 853 Inbred and a Tern Link folder. Those comfortably take us over £10k.

    Any suggestions gratefully received. ?

Pedalcover have always been good for me, this years renewal was cheaper than last year as well, for a change.

You can also get a 15% discount with them if you’re a member of Cycling UK.

Policy Expert for ours.  I have 8 bikes insured with a max value of £6k per bike, all as named items.  This includes out of the house.  £440 a year for buildings and contents.

M&S Bank cover bikes on household policy. Just need to specify the value of the most expensive bike. They don’t specify particular locks etc which makes things easier.

Go through Quidco for £34 back on M&S.

Still the cheapest for us with 6 bikes, max 10k value each.

Aviva – only up to £5k per bike or ebike is covered, but unlimited bikes. Even covers my son at Uni for his bike.
I haven’t explored how expensive it gets above £5k limit, or if they cover.

Thanks everybody. Will try M&S again I think.
it’s daft though, we’ve had £15-20k of bikes insured for years and now struggling!!

If it’s under £5k per bike, Aviva

We’re back with M&S after a few years in the wilderness.  It’s not ‘cheap’ at a bit north of £500/yr for us, but seems good cover.  Only need to tell them the value of the most expensive, but not name it and everything else covered to that.  So my S-Works Tarmac at best part of £10k replacement value is what I used.  Also covers our valuable contents well.

Sorry if it’s a bit late, but if you use QuoteMeHappy via Confused.com you can get Aviva’s cover with £30+ cashback.

Do you need proof of purchase for M&S Bank insurance? I need to change from Pedal Cover to one that doesn’t (I only have the receipt for one of my 5 bikes so can only technically claim for that one)

Gave up and got cheaper house b&c insurance and insured them all with Laka.  Core as its cheeper

I’m with Aviva. At last renewal I realised that bike inflation had taken the replacement cost of two of my bikes over £5k. I told them and for a very modest cost they increased the cover.

This is my experience too. Get House cover for your house (thus opening up the whole market). Get bike cover for your bikes.

Check this with PC, but I believe they offer new-for-old on bikes with proof of purchase – or secondhand value otherwise. Which suits me well enough.

M&S wont quote for us for some reason.

We moved house in June, a lot less insurers quoting now. Those that do have high excess for ‘escape of water’, is there a way of finding out the claim history of a house?

had an email from the AA yesterday telling me that they’ve revamped their levels of cover and none of them fits my requirements from this year’s policy, so they can’t cover me next year.
I can only imagine it’s the bike cover since nothinbg else is unusual

I’m struggling to get how M and S can insure our bikes max value £6K for my E Bike, I explained we have 3 others ( worth less) for less than £22 ? I also said surely ot asking for details could potentially mean some people might try and claim for a non existent or cheap bike , she said if anything happens you will be required to show a receipt for said bike which is fair enough.

They also offer a No Claims Discount on Buildings and Contents which cost me about another £26 . It was still £170 cheaper then the Halifax.

M&S policy here. No issues, all bikes covered with only the most expensive one needing specifying. I’ve got bike cover away from home and contents away from home so that my clothes are also covered in the event of an offage (ask me how I know I needed this cover… :eyeroll emoji). Includes protected no claims and public liability and legal etc.

Costs a small fortune (over £500) but has excellent things like storm damage to fences included which I wish I had when my fence blew down 2 years ago. I’ve decided not to skimp on insurance cover anymore and M&S ticks all my boxes.

40 percent increase in M and S premium this year- just had the renewal through- is this what other people are seeing across the board?

My M&S went up about 11% from last year.

Our M&S policy went up about 30% this year.  I looked around and it was still the best option for us.

Try phoning them ? I did with the Halifax when they put ours up about 30% , straight away they knocked about £90 off straight away! Since then though I bought ours from M and S which was £90 cheaper again!

Bah, was going to recommend AA (though I haven’t ever needed to claim thankfully). But I may well get this on renewal as well…

Having direct experience of the A A insurance side through work I would never, ever go with them. Claimants seem to be ubiquitously poorly served.
