I, for one, am very much looking forward to this. It gives us 3 years to observe how completely and utterly a “tax and spend” leader can decimate a country before we have to vote again. Might make a few rethink their plans to vote for Milliband and Balls.

The day after Mitterand won the election shares dropped by 18%.

2/3rds of French debt is held by the “market”, so I can’t see Hollande changing things that much.

The flying ox is potentially right. If the new guy stuffs up the french economy then it will really play into the Torys hands come 2015.
So if the euro is back at 1.30 against sterling and the french are out in force burning sheep and turning to sean penn and other loony parties then Cameron will just point accross la manche and say…look what we avoided, can we have another go without the libdems please.

I think the above is likely. Eitherway what happens to France will feed into UK politics greatly over the next 3 year.

    Yep, spot on.
Will be interesting what effect this will have on their position at the “heart of Europe”.

I’d have loved to be a fly on the wall when Sarkozy rang Frau Merkel to tell her 😀

Whatever happens its should certainly make European politics interesting for the next few months, and the economics could be fun as well!

Well you haven’t been observing Europe for the last three years, so what makes you think that the British people will bother observing what’s going to happen in the next 3 years ?

Since you don’t appear to be aware, let me point out that Europe is in a dire economic mess, and the overwhelming majority of EU member states have, and have had, conservative governments – 24 out of the 27 member states up until today had conservative governments.

Conservativism doesn’t work, not that you will have noticed of course.

Unless the next French President is a magician I doubt he can change much let alone turn things around.

Now the French have stepped onto the platform of the roller coaster, the ride will start soon …

Bet it will be another one term President … however, this President will buy vote by giving out “free” (just print more) money … 😆

And maybe give it to the people direct rather than giving it to the banks via quantitative easing …
    Viva la revolution!

Well it seems that the pro-austerity parties have lost.

Not that it’s likely to make much difference of course, I don’t think democracy stretches that far – it’s the bankers who decide government policy, not the people.

I’ll put money on Carla trading him in for a more powerful model sometime soon. At least then he can bin his little booster heels.

That will not happen … the banks will make the President’s term a nightmare.

Socialism doesn’t work will work only if you are put to hard labour by Dear Leader, not that you will have noticed of course.

Fixed that for you again … 😆

Why, couldn’t you think of anything of your own to say ?

If you don’t agree with my statement that “24 out of the 27 member states up until today had conservative governments” then challenge me, I’m sticking to my comment.

spend spend is the name of the game! Spend spend spend!

Because of course “cut cut cut” works so well ?

That’s why the Tories and the LibDems did so well on Thursday eh ?

And why austerity has worked so well in Greece, Ireland, and Spain ?

    TandemJeremy

No no no Ernie – they just haven’t tried hard enough yet. More cuts are what is needed

Yes, look at Spain … soon they will be put to hard labour too.

Well his rhetoric is certainly very different. Quote :

“My true enemy has no name, no face, no party. He will never stand for election and will never be elected. Despite all this, he is in charge. My enemy is the world of finance”

I can’t imagine Cameron or Osborne, or even Miliband, ever coming out with something like that.

But time will tell whether the deeds match the rhetoric. I somehow doubt it.

I bet he does but I doubt different views can turn things around that fast, people unfortunately expect things to change like flicking the switch … well, let’s see if the magic works.

Milliband and Balls will be infinitely preferable to Dickhead and Bollocks who are failing to run the shop now.

Hollande and Schauble will be fun to watch.

Anyone know what kind of background Hollande comes from, eg education?. Guess he’s not at all like our lot from elite education.

If you spent it wisely, then, yes, it very well could.

Or in other words, it’s probably not that simple, no matter what the Mail might have you believe.

Depends what you spend it on. Invest or use it wisely and yes it might.

    EDIT – beaten to it!
