Militant_biker – I’m in a similar position to you. Have had asthma since i was a baby. It was really bad when i was younger, but now i’m 31 and pretty fit, its hardly a problem. Cycling and running has been the best thing i’ve ever done for asthma! Mine mainly hits me when i get a cold, or an allergic reaction to something – cats, dust etc. My problem these days seems to be that when i do get a cold/an attack, its really bad. As far as I understand, if i was taking the steroids on a daily basis, i’d either not get the attack or it would be much milder. I think you need to have the brown inhaler in your system for something like 24-48 hours prior to an attack for it to make a difference. I don’t take the brown inhaler anymore as on a day-to-day basis, i don’t think it’d make any difference. The only time i feel i want to take it is when i’ve got a cold as it always goes for my asthma, and i end up on steriods and antibiotics.
That’s part of the reason why i was curious about the swine and flu jab – i’m down to have one again this year. I don’t like the idea of it, however, its tricky as i know if i got the flu it’d be back on steroids and antibiotics, and i don’t like taking that lot either!
