I’ve got this Asgard shed see. Last week or so I’ve noticed the key being a little notchy when turned but it’s opened ok.

Went for a ride last night and when I got back I just literally could not open it. The key just hits a solid point and won’t go further.

I’ve put some oil in. It all spins beautifully right up to the point where it stops. I’ve turned the key (both ways) a bit harder than is advisable. I’ve shaken it all about and turned the handle quickly back and forth.

    Nothing.

The best part is, I’m due to go riding in Scotland for a week at the weekend and I cannot access my 150mm gnarpoon weapon.  I only have my fatbike out 🤔

I’ve contacted Asgard who asked to see my receipt and then nothing more from them as yet(I only contacted them last night obvs)

So time isn’t on my side and I just wondered on the off chance if any Asgardists had come across this issue before and managed to free up whatever is sticking via some kind of magic technique?

If not, what’s Fort Bill World Cup track like on a rigid fatbike? 😂

I imagine your local locksmith will be able to open it in seconds but charge you £50+

That’s the same as mine and my lock is starting to sound like it’s suffering the same fate 😕

I imagine I would too what with my collection of drills and angle grinders and a YouTube session, but obviously, I’m worried about warranty. It’s less than a year old.

do you have a spare key( not used so much) might be a worn key not opening the lock right ?

Have you tried hitting the key with a screwdriver handle while you’re turning it

    I haven’t even got a lawn! 😂 That’s a marketing shot.

I’ve tried my spare keys too, but it’s only months old anyway.

Interesting on the bump keys, however, isn’t that more for if you’ve not got the proper key that works?

I’ve got the keys obviously. I suspect that’s what’s happening though. It’s not getting the little uppy downy things in the right position maybe.

Oh. Well I’ve been impressed with them up until now to be fair but… NEWS JUST IN…

    I’ve opened it!

    Not quite sure how but..

Have you tried hitting the key with a screwdriver handle while you’re turning it

I did a bit of that, and a bit of rapidly turning it back and forth just now and PING! Right before I thought of giving up, It clicked open.

So thanks everyone but mostly andy5390

When you open it, there is a little knurled pin that moves up and down when you operate the key. I checked that moved freely by hand, and then I’ve basically drenched the hell out of it all in oil. It seems to work very smoothly now.

I’ve locked it again now. Maybe I should have kept my bike in the house just in case! 🤔

    Cheers all

I’m now awaiting the inevitable post next week where the shed has been broken into and the bikes’ been nicked.😋

Cheers for the thread, I’ve always thought the mechanism on mine sounded a bit squeaky. Will do it with GT85 tomorrow.

Shouldn’t you use some sort of graphite rather than oil though??

Yeah I think a heavier oil is what you want over Gt85. Something that’ll hang around a bit. 👍

    Gt85 will kill the lock.
Use chain lube if that’s all you got

    Silicon spray?
Works great in normal door locks that are notchy.

    Silicon spray?
Works great in normal door locks that are notchy.

Thing with this was, the key wasn’t notchy as such. It spun both ways really well, no resistance at all. Right until it just stopped dead at the point where you would normally feel it click open.

I’m not so sure that the issue was inside the key barrel, rather inside whatever moves when the key barrel turns and moves it to open.  The fact that all of that is only accessed from the inside was my issue as I was locked out.

Now that I have lubed it all up generously, it seems to work well. I think silicone spray would work but would not last, like a grease or heavier oil would.

I would advise anyone with an Asgard shed to go and wang a bit of spray oil into the lock mechanism from the inside of the door. A bit in the lock from the outside can’t hurt either.

I’ve told Asgard that I’ve managed to open it now but they’ve yet to get back to me anyway. All sorted anyway 👍
