In the download queue, maybe tomorrow? I’m sure as an early adopter it will be 100% bug free and I’ll be delighted…

Too late! Does seem to have cured the docking issue.

ArsTechnica go into a bit more detail (which Gizmodo basically just cut-and-pasted). They say to consider it. It does makes a 4S measurably slower but it does give nice new features:

My 5 wil be getting the download as I’ve hated it since the day I got it. Its battery is shite and mobile internet connection poor. Hopefully it will make a bit of difference?

It’ll make no difference to your network connection but may make a difference to the battery, might last less time. Smartphones hammed the batteries so they really don’t last very long it you use them a lot.

Yep, the battery in my 4S is completely baconed.

The battery in my 4, only gives me about an hour of pork time, before it fries.

You did do a backup before you upgraded?

Yes, I always back up to iCloud. However I’ve restored the phone, but still running ios8, and they now seem to be appearing in ‘collections>moments’

Perhaps the phone has a faulty ariel, when the mobile signal/connectivity is poor the phone uses lots of battery trying to reconnect. I’ve had this with my 4S. Sometimes when you drop the phone it appears fine but the ariel connection (which is round the outside) gets damaged.

4S now running iOS8 – all fine, no negative performance issues.

As someone who’s eyesight is not what it was the fact that text scaling (ie larger) now works over more apps, notifications and in menus so much better. More mail options on swipe (a tiny bit useful). Not had time to look at healthbook, tips app quite useful found out some new things. Just looking at battery usage, phone seems to be running full time (1.5hr on, 1.5hr usage battery 95% remaining seem too good to be true), mail using 44% of battery so far. Following this will appeal to my geek instincts.

High variable download times, my phone finished overnight, gf’s still not done after 8 hours.

Mavericks update just released too. Seems a bit strange to overload the servers even more but perhaps they are on a different “set”.

New keyboard features, lots of “emotion thingies”, bikebouy they even have some suitable for gold iPhone users – red high heels for you ?

You’d think they’d use a peer to peer bit torrent style protocol for distributing massive updates to millions of people.

Favourite new iOS8 feature based on my 2 minute play? Finally – FINALLY – you can add emergency contact info (and blood type, allergies etc) to your medical ID that can be accessed from the lock screen.

Mine’s gone but all the photos are still in collections and therefore on the phone. It’s quite confusing.

I’m a bit puzzled as to why Apple decided to release the iCloud disc thing when OSX doesn’t yet support it in a final release.

Yes, definitely some photostream issues/changes, perhaps its moved or it needs to be resynched. All my photos I have taken are in the collections tab and I seem to have the shared photos taken by others so perhaps the photo stream doesn’t show duplicates of your own photos which it used to ?

Allows the 1m + people on Yosemite Beta to test it ? new Mavericks out today but I don’t think that has iCloud Drive

Not the point though is it!
Its a feature that has just GONE – no warning, just gone.

Oh, here’s another handy feature that I will definitely use. Shazam is built into Siri. Ask Siri “What song is this?” 😀

In that case it should be a sneaky activation as they have the apple ID of the people on the beta. Asking people if they want to activate a feature they probably can’t use is a bit silly

To be fair, the update does very clearly tell you it won’t work unless you’re on Yosemite.

Ask Siri “What song is this?”

To which Siri will reply: “WHAAAAT? I. CAN’T. HEAR. YOU. OVER. THE MUSIC.”

Yes mine are all in ‘collections’ now but that was only have doing a wiping the phone and restoring. Now there’s a load of apps that are showing as ‘waiting’, and have been for quite some time.

    “Siri, what song is this?”

as more and more apps are splitting off in function-specific apps (I’m looking at you Facebook/Messenger and Google Drive/Apps) it’s great to know I can at least delete an app now. Bye bye Shazam.

Or more likely ‘sorry I didn’t quite catch that’.

True but a quick straw poll of people who’ve activated it in the office indicates they assume Yosemite is whatever the latest OSX is in all but one case. Plus me.

if you plug it in to a computer you don’t need any space to do the update.

    As I was told.

    AFTER I deleted everything.

@picton, always best to do updates with computer, downloading major OS updates over wifi was one of things which caused some 4S wifi chips to fry.

just loving the predictive words feature on keyboard, I am finding most messages I can compose with the words proposed once I’ve typed first one or two, very cool

clearly this feature already existed outside iOS somewhere 😉
