  • Anyone using 'Paypal here' for a small business?

We’re looking for a way of taking card payments for the wife’s newly set up business – ‘Paypal here’ seems an easy and portable option (important as she works from home and away, so you link it with your iPhone).

Anyone here got any experience with it?
Are 2.75% fees pretty standard – Googling would suggest so, but the ‘STW touch’ is often appreciated!

It does seem that circa 2-3% is standard for any card transaction, looking at it.

The reviews are good mostly – a criticism is that there’s no display on the card machine, but i suppose you explain to the customer, show them your phone/ipad screen, and take it from there!

Bear in mind that if / when you have issues with PayPal you end up speaking to a call center where English is not their first language.

We use it at events and shows for subs purchases and the like. It’s very good. We’ve had no issues with it as yet. Sends the customer not only an automatic email receipt but also a map with a pin showing where the transaction happened.

Charlie TBM uses it, someone else to ask.

I use iZettle, which has been fairly faultless so far. (it failed to connect to the ipad once. turning everything off and on again fixed it)

(Also, let me know if you are going to go iZettle as if I recommend you, we both get some free transactions, or you get a reduced card reader, or something like that)

Would PayPal act as judge jury and executioner in a dispute as a result of using their service for purchase? I’d prefer the independent iZettle as a trader.

We use Paypl and also NoChex on our website. Basically with all payment processing you have to pay fees but some are better than others for small businesses due to volume. The real key thing is customer trust. We found that many customers don’t really understand Paypal and think you have to open an account to use it, which you don’t and they can just put their credit card details in. That is why we also started to use NoChex as a payment gateway. There is no monthly fee and they just take a small %. We have found that we get about a 50/50 spread between the two payment methods.
