Anyone putting their heating on yet?

have lit teh stove earlier in the week to burn off the “New stove new sealant” fumes.

yep, being doing that this week, even though I’m still wearing shorts in the house!

New house (only moved in late last year so still finding best temperature to set it at)…

I work away in the week, wife told me on Monday she’d put the heating on, no debate possible because I can’t possibly imagine how cold it is there apparently. On Sunday all seemed fine so something dramatic must have happened….

TBF, the temperature drop from Sunday to Monday was pretty big (certainly around where we live in North Yorkshire anyway).

18 morning on weekdays (4.30 am)

14 during the day /evening – never seen it kick in.

Stove heats in the evening and weekends.

17 morning for 1.5hrs.

That’s it at the moment, apart from a little stove top-up in the evs.

17 – comes on about 5.30 – 5.45 sort of time. Goes off around 09.00
17 – back on in afternoon, about 15.00 off by 22.00

Been single figures here the last few nights, and 3c yesterday at 8am.

Needless to say the stove has been lit each evening – the AGA though has been on now for 13 months 🙂

mines been flicking on in the morning as well. the time varies as it’s an “intelligent thing”, but it’s programmed to be 19c by 0600 for 2 hours then off to 15c during the day, then 19c again for around 17:30 for 2-3 hours.. Lie TR the the house has been heating from the sun during the day so it’s not come on in the evenings yet~!

Came in from a bike ride the other night and the whole family – including the cat – was sitting in the living room looking cold and pathetic

I felt so sorry for them I had to put the heating on for an hour. Only 17° mind let’s not get carried away

Whats better on al the time or timed? I’ve got mine at 17 all the time as we don’t like to too warm, someone is always in mostly so we just leave it on 24/7 unless we’re away. Is that a really stupid idea, how long to heat up an old (but well insulated and windowed) victorian place from cold?

i guarantee some eco box dweller will argue with me BUT

in a late 1800 stone wall stable conversion with 3ft walls in winter if you let the walls cool down it would take 3 or 4 days constant heat to get the house “warm” again – so we left the heating on low all the time.

current house is twin skin brick and rendered block with cavity insulation – 1950s. takes much less time to get it warm so we have it on a programable timer.

The FIL who has unimaginable amounts of spare time to investigate exactly this sort of first-world problem assures me in no uncertain terms that it’s more economical on timed

When we had one installed at our old house we lit it on the first night despite it being the middle of summer 🙂

Waiting till we do an extension on the new place and I am going to get a double sided one to serve two interconnected rooms. This will probably be around 2034…

You have it on at night? Well that’s wasteful – if that matters to you…. When in bed a hot water bottle is all that’s needed, then get the heating on 1/2 hr before getting up if you need some pampering.

I have traditionally held my ground until at least November but acquiring a wee baby (currently 9 days old) has quite thoroughly trumped my miserly tendencies and the heating went on on Monday.

Mine has been on… I don’t care.. it’s warm and nice. I’m not planning on sitting here wearing a bloody overcoat just so I can be superior like the rest of the STW condescending gang.

In fact, in 5 mins, my log man is turning up with a new delivery… I rekon tomorrow as it’s me and my boy at home we’ll have a log fire going.

Back in the early nineties when a student in Norwich the toilet water froze one winter. Not sure even that made us put the heating on.

One year, we had hired a cottage just outside Aviemore over Xmas/NY for winter climbing and it was so cold the drains froze and you couldn’t empty the bath!

Mind you, it was exceptionally cold that year, Steal Waterfall, in Glen Nevis, froze solid and night time temp was below -25C.
