  • Anyone know where Mike Levy has gone?

After a few weeks of wondering why I’d not heard Levy on the PB podcast of late, a quick google suggests that he and PB have parted ways. New guy Dario seems harmless enough but lacks the crucial insight into when the alien invasion will be happening.

Does anyone have any idea where Levy will pop up next?

Have you tried asking on PB?

    That’s a shame, I really like him.

Unlikely but I wonder if his departure explains why we never saw much of the Grim Donut V2?

I don’t think that I’ve ever contributed to that forum. It seems to be where the worst of us hang out.

No idea. Haven’t been onto pb since I recently got banned for 2 years for my comments containing facts and logic regarding a recent British cycling announcement.

I met Dario at a Canyon launch just after he started. Seems like he’d fit in quite nicely here – he’s a bike nerd, not a bro, and he likes the makers/innovators/freak bike stuff. He was part of the team that built one of the Cal Poly NAHBS bikes. I liked him.

Can’t help you with where Mike Levy is though.

Hope he’s got a nice pay rise, he was by far the best presenter on PB.

Funny and engaging without making it all about him. Unlike his replacement as podcast host, sadly.

if you dig a bit deeper you’ll find that the reports that him and pinkbike have parted ways is a joke started in the comments section on pink bike. A user used chatgpt to generate it…

He’s now the editor/tech editor for the new Velo arm of Outside (Gravel, innit).

Wasn’t he talking about doing an epic gavel ride earlier in the year? Perhaps he’s just taken some time out?

he always seems to have an extended vacation each year

to go after the trade shows, and before the (I presume) summer field test would make sense.

He’s at Curling Camp in Calgary…

I’d be sorry to see less Levy on pb. Wouldn’t want undiluted Levy but he is/was a most entertaining member of the team.

I would have thought they would make some for announcement if he was moving on to pastures new. Like many I think the 2 Mikes are the heart of PB

I guess he’ll pop up again at some point.

    @chrismac
    – agreed. Brian and the Mikes are the sensible heads. Henry is rapidly becoming the guy with opinions framed to cause ‘debate’.

Henry Quinney did make a comment under one of the podcasts along the lines of “they aren’t going to divulge the details of someone’s personal life, no matter how often people ask” so I assumed he was on an extended break (above and beyond curling camp) to deal with some stuff. Hope he works things out and makes a return to PB as he really is rather fun. Was particularly hoping to see more humbled content this year.

Quite like Henry. Oddly agree mostly with his opinions. Think he’s ok.

Levy is good fun. Like him. Again, agree with most of his opinions.

Was surprised to learn that Paul the Punter was once an employee of PB given his shite riding style and novice appearance/approach to biking. Thought his attitude when Scott dropped him was funny in a way. Begging for a new sponsor. And now he’s given up on riding. What a ***k!

Sarah Moore is also pretty quiet and historically they’ve worked on big projects like the summer field tests together so maybe that’s their focus now.

I think Mike was going to attend to a little bit of rust on his Mini’s subframe and like anyone who has owned a BL car is now experiencing mission creep and is now into a 12month rebuild of it.

I like Henry too.  Peak for me is the 2 Mikes and Henry but the Pods are OK as they are at the moment too.

There’s some good WC DH insight on both the Downtime and Moving the Needle (Alan Milway is on the latest one) podcasts too.

    She is/was on maternity leave.

Paul the punter worked for PB in advertising sales I think, so wasn’t ever part of the tech or content team.
I like the 2 Mikes, enjoy Henry’s sense of humour and think his videos have been very good of late and he’s doing a good job of covering the pods while Levy is away.
Like Paul Aston and watch some of his YouTube content now he’s moved on from Nicolai.
This thread has made me realise I know way too much about the current and former PB staff.

I like Henry. You can tell he knows he talks utter shite at times but is convincing with it.

I like all the PB presenters, they manage to tread that fine line between being informative and opinionated and not taking themselves too seriously.

given his shite riding style and novice appearance/approach to biking.

Wasn’t that was the whole point of his channel, that he was like us, and not Yoann Barelli?

     Begging for a new sponsor.

Didn’t he get picked up by Giant and Shimano…Until he stopped riding, I think he said he was earning $50k a year. Seems like he was doing OK.

I hadn’t realised James Smurthwait had left for the bbc until it was half-mentioned in a podcast.. Mike’s still showing on their staff page though (unlike james)

    Moving the Needle

The guy doesn’t know when to shut up and let his guests speak for themselves.

Wasn’t that was the whole point of his channel, that he was like us,

    Speak for yourself…. 😘

But that’s the thing…. If I wanted to watch someone who didn’t know what they were doing mincing down a trail then I could just watch any old tit trying to ride down a hill.

His van build stuff was kinda interesting, but his lack of hands on approach left me feeling a bit meh. Anyone can throw money at a project to get it finished.

I agree with this, but there are some good guests which somewhat make it worth putting up with.

Sure, it is weird though, I mean his channel wasn’t for everyone I agree, but Yoann; 58k subscribers, Paul the Punter; 180K seems like 3 times as many folks wanted to watch “any old tit ride down a hill” over Yoann “You go ‘ere”

At least he was a top level WC racer, so he has real insight, even if he’s a bit awkward on the mic and has some lame opinions. The shows with Sven Martin more than make up for it though.

I hope I’m not that much of an annoying, entitled pillock.

Levy was guest on a podcast I listened to recently and his place at Pinkbike was discussed

Will be listening to that later, his departure not unexpected I suppose. Leaves a big hole in my MTB entertainment that’s for sure, feels as bad as when Zapata Espinoza went full time roadie (yes I am old)

The ‘final podcast’ is fun, and it was a nice eulogy to his career at PB, but man, working with him?  It did sound like a nightmare for everyone else around him 😂

Where’s he gone? I know I could listen to the podcast but I can’t be arsed.
