Anyone know what’s there? i.e. coffee shops, places to eat etc.

Off for a long weekend there soon.

I’m presuming there are plenty of places there to walk my dogs?

    Thanks for any help.

Burley is a lovely little village – several cafes and a couple of pubs. Very touristy – no cash point although some of the cafes do take cards with a minimum spend. Apparently the peg bags in the witches coven is a must – I think a couple of years ago they were £17. Lots of places to just wander with the dog and bike but be aware that the locals think they own the new forest – we came across some quite haughty horse riders whose opinion was “get orf my land”. The dogs will have a fantastic time in the bracken. Obviously beware of the wild horses, ticks and pigs (truffles) at this time of year. You can always go into Brockenhurst or Lymington if Burley is a little slow – I think there are only about 8 shops there (incl coffee shops and pubs). I would also suggest getting an OS map as the paths get adapted over the years – your local library might have one to hire. This is Burleys website
If you want to do some riding during the weekend – somarich & WCA are locals on this website.

Great place to walk dogs from! It is, however, totally aimed at the tourist market and has tourist prices. Not so great for us locals.

As MrsPoddy said – the local horsey types do think no one else should be on the forest, but it is possible to ride some quite good stuff in the area – if you know where to look!

    Enjoy your weekend 😀

Those horse ridery types with that kinda of attitude aren’t locals, they’re blow-ins.

Its a nice village, but it will get busy if the weather is good. Couple of good pubs, dog freindly too. Loads of places to walk, but be wary of the horses, they can get a bit aggressive if theres food around and your not giving them any.

Sounds lovely, really looking forward to it now.

Thanks for link to website – looks like there could also be a few things for my 7 year old daughter to do which is a bonus.

    Cheers.

Buy Cider from the Cider shop. Go to the tea shop, avoid the bullshit witches crap. Go to the fudge shop. You can hire a bike and cycle to Brockenhurst along a disused railway line, a nice gentle family style ride. Got to Mill lawn to walk. Please take your rubbish home.

Please be aware that there is a thorough road so look before you cross the road / walk into it. If you see a pony in the road while driving slow and give it room but don’t stop your car in the road taking photos, pull over off the road and go shooting photos. If the horses are sheltering under a bridge from the sun / rain they will not move if you just sit there no matter how long you wait, you will have to creep towards them slowly in your car and the will walk round you.

If you are there on Saturday 27th then DO check out the Cornflower Crafts Christmas Fair – and then go to my wife’s stall and but some lovely handmade beads (Murano style) for your better halves or yourself!

Oh yeah, don’t feed them or your have a bunch of over aggressive ponies with attitudes that give a group of Vodka filled Chav’s a run for their money… 😈
