Gave in and ordered one. I was looking at the Canyon Spectral On but succumbed to the Wiggle discount and £1000 less than the Canyon I was looking at.

Anyone comment on how well it rides as a general trail bike? Bit worried that it’s a bit too “Enduro” as I need something that will handle steep rocky stuff as well as being fun on the singletrack.

My normal FS is a Bird Aeris in medium so the Vitus medium looked to be the closest match size wise.

    I’ve had a 2018 and now have a 2019
it’s loads of fun on easy trails too. (XC laps at world class XC guy pace isn’t dull)
The only time it isn’t so fun is if when pedalling you are yoyoing around the 15.5mph cut out or riding a constant speed above 15mph.
this can be erm… fixed tho.
for easy local trails change the tyres to something with a lighter casinjg and faster rolling tread compound. this absolutely transforms the bikes handling.
(I run exo dual compound DHF/HRII or SS for everything as i hate draggy tyres even on super technical steep trails)

if you’re a strong decent rider you’ll get the hang of throwing it around like a normal bike fairly quickly.

    What height are you?
They’re quite long bikes so hopefully you aren’t a wee guy whose bought into fashionably juggernaught sizing. If so don’t expect it to manual nicely or be as playful as a shorter size would be. all that weight down low is immense for stability but you can’t change the fact playfullness is the opposite of stability. 😉
the 2019 has a 50mm stem (2018 had 35mm) and even that 15mm means it’s noticably harder to raise the front end over last years bike.

I’m 5’7 and have ridden both medium and small, I’d go for the small but the medium is ok too.

Not easy to manual as it’s so long as geex says above.

Handles big rocky lakes descents no problem, is a bit more of a handful at Stainburn as it takes a bit of slowing down when you get some speed up. On flowy stuff it’s great, keeps it’s speed up really well and removing the limit makes it more fun.

Soon as you get it convert it to tubeless as they come with super heavy dh tubes in them.

I have just got one, with the discount from Wiggle. Only had 1 local ride in woods is great fun even in the woods. I am 6ft & went large. I used to have a large Sommet Pro, sold the frame last year so upgraded some of parts on new Vitus when it came, wheels, fork bar & stem & Saint shifter as had it all lying around 😂. Am running Rock Razor on rear & Magic Mary up front old school 2.35 width

Am 5’9 so thinking the medium should be okay. Am wondering if the Spectral will be more playful.

Would probably be fitting a 35mm stem straight away.

At your height you could easily ride S, M or L.
I’m 5’11” and both of mine have been smalls
At 435mm reach and with a 50mm stem it’s not a short bike. (pretty much sized similarly to a lot of Medium non-E Enduro bikes).
Being shorter reach means it manuals and hops nicely (it just takes a shit ton more pre-load and slightly different timing to a 30lb Enduro bike), mine pops off stuff like a boss and is still plenty stable enough on even the roughest fastest terrain due to the weight distribution and long(ish) stays.
I def wouldn’t want it any longer.
(I have ridden plenty longer Emtbs BTW)

The Spectral:ON IMO is less playful because of the 29″ front wheel* and has far less sorted descending geometry.
    The Esommet is surprisingly light.
Mine’s 47lb with Exo tyres and a couple of lighter parts. (saddle mainly)

*I just don’t find 29″ wheels playful at all in comparison to 27.5 or 26″. 29s do whip nicely off a properly built jump but the slower turning in and larger diameter means they are just not as nimble or playful when popping about playing with lines. This will only become worse if you’re a shorter rider.

Oh.. what’s your inside leg measurement?
I have A 33″ inseam and run a 170mm B-X dropper in mine but it is inserted as far as it will go.
The small comes with a 120mm and can be inseterted a lot lower. I think the med comes with a 150mm (L def does but it has a much taller seatmast meaning you may run into problems if you have shorter legs)

I’d a quick shot of a guys e-sommet in the car park the other day, it felt lovely.

I’ve nothing else to add! 😆

30″ inseam does sound kinda short for a 150mm dropper
But don’t be worried. it’s easy enough to shim it down (or possibly swap to shorter travel or lower stack 150mm post)
The bike is an absolute bargain and ridiculously capable.

You will be fine my inseam is just less than 32” & the large with 150mm dropper is high enough that I could get a 170mm dropper in no issues my other bike the seat tube is 495 with a 170mm dropper

What’s this wiggle discount that is mentioned. It’s down to £2879 on both Wiggle and CRC.
    Absolute bargain already

I’ve have one of the 1st e-sommets from last year & love the damned thing. I’ve used it throughout the year with no issues, & don’t find it too much bike (my manual fs is 140mm). There lots of great options to choose from, but this is one of the best for the money imo.

The base model with Yari fork is currently £2879 with 10% off. The VR model has a Lyrik RC2 and slightly more powerful E8000 motor vs the E7000.

I picked up the VR for £3100 with 17% discount (12% platinum with a temporary extra 5%). Also took it on 0% finance as it was on offer so saves me a bit extra in interest.
