My wife dropped her Garmin vivo active 4s a coupleof weeks ago and the screen is knackered. Wondering if it’s actually worth getting it replaced or if it costs a fortune, or even possible? Pretty sure its out of warranty and I don’t think Garmin would replace it in warranty anyway as it was dropped.

Anyone know of any third party places to fix it?

    Following with interest!

I asked about battery replacement in an otherwise good condition out of warranty 235 forerunner watch. Garmin offered me a discount on the newer 245 watch.

If you can find somewhere that will change a screen they may change a battery. Good luck!

I follow a couple of Garmin threads elsewhere and apparently the customer service is very good at offering a discount – even if out of warranty .
I’ve not tried it myself but worth a bash

We’ve not actually been intouch with Garmin yet but I did a quick google and saw that they’d unlikely warranty it but could fix it, no mention of price though. Just wondered if there are alternatives about or if it’s Garmin or nothing. My wife is rubbish with this sort of thing and the watch will just sit there broken for ages until I either sort it or buy her a new one….

We may take them up on a discount if they offered though.

I think what happens from the experience of my wife having to warranty a Fenix 5 is that they’ll send you a refurbed unit in exchange for yours, so unlikely you’ll get the same unit back. I guess the one you send them will then go into the pool of units they refurb (or it will get recycled) for someone else. Garmin were pretty good though with the exchange.

For reference it was the charging port on the back of the watch that failed.

Worth contacting them to see what they say.

I’ve had 2 Garmin watches replaced under warranty. One for a failing battery and one for a sticky button. Both were done promptly and quibble free. They were good to deal with. I know yours is out of warranty but I do know they have an official UK repair facility. It might be worth calling them first before any third party repairer. I suspect you will pay, but maybe not as much as you think.

Cool, cheers all. Makes me feel a bit better about it. I’ll message Garmin and see what they say.

The charing port has been a bit dodgy for a while as well, so will mention that as she dropped it while faffing with the charging cable as it wasn’t charging at the time…..

My wife smashed the screen on my Vivo active a couple of years ago when she borrowed it for a run.
I found a replacement screen on eBay that came from China in about 3 weeks. Took about 15 mins to fit and it’s been perfect ever since. Can’t remember exactly how much but I seem to think about 28 quid

Topical!  I have just got off the phone with Garmin. The watch casing on my Forerunner 645 music got damaged (where band pins connect) while helping my daughter out of an inflatable Swim ring. I was a bit surprised at this as didn’t think much force was involved. A bit of googling turned up it was a known weak point.

Garmin CS said the could replace for a reconditioned model at the cost of £117 (due to being 5 months out of warranty).  I asked if they would they give me a discount against buying a new watch direct through them, but after asking his supervisor they said no.

Bit disappointing but now got to weigh up if want to pay for reconditioned model or look for any good deals on something else.
