This is one of those places which has caught my attention on YouTube.

Basically in my old age I’m forgetting how to jump and it doesn’t help that I only lay eyes on actual MTB jumps once or twice a year. It looks like a fun place to hit some smaller gaps and step ups etc. It also looks like Junior might be able to roll around on his balance bike a bit.

Looking on Google maps it seems like a small area. Are the trails in the woods behind the actual massive stone thing? Anything special to look out for?

I’m hoping to get down on a Monday or Friday if it stops raining for a bit. Current conditions are probably a bit soggy.

I don’t do that kind of riding but unintentionally ended up there one evening last summer.

They are at the top of the hill in the woods behind the massive (Hemlock) stone. As far as I recall, relatively small area but quite popular.

Just keep following the tracks up into the trees. If you drive there, there’s a car park the other side of the road at Bramcote Hills, which also has a play area if you have a little one, but no toilets. Coffee and/or ice cream vans sometimes in the car park.

It’s a slog up the hill to the trails, might not be great with a balance bike, and might not be a lot of space for them to play if it’s busy.

Thanks for the info. We’ll be going on a weekday so hopefully it won’t be too busy and the Mrs will be there so I won’t be trying to wrangle a flying balance bike on my own.

If it’s too hard work I’ll send them to the play park without me!

For the size of the hill, there’s quite a lot packed in. Some decent sized jumps and plenty to progress on. There’s also a couple of pretty steep lines off the back of the hill and some very big drops! Along with some proper dirt jumps

Sounds ideal. I’ll keep an eye on the weather and get down there asap.

They’ve got some named runs from the top of the hill now.

I wouldn’t take my wee one (4) up there, the push up is quite steep. Bottom gear and spinning hard to get up. Fine for a few runs but if I was just there I’d be pushing up.

I took my wee one to Calverton woods on his bike. There is  either a flat muddy path or a fire road climb up to the jumps bit.

The official side of Hemlock has some great downhill trails, incorporating small doubles, plenty of berms and tables, and a step up. Not appropriate for a small child on a balance bike IMO.

Down the back of the hill might be better; it’s flatter and you could do dirt jumps while Jr scoots about on tamer stuff. It is accessible either down from the trig point, but that’s steep. Better go round from the bottom.

    Have fun.
