So if the headset cap has, say, 5 logos on it, do you set it up with one logo to the front, or one to the back?

And that’s not anal – specifying the brand of nipple to use in your wheels is anal. I’ve had that 😉

They clearly need sorting along with several other things – cables etc.

Just pop them out and put them back in. Nothing permanent there and as others have suggested sort out the English if you are into attention to detail. You are just asking for trouble!!

I hope the trend for gopping great logos on things ends soon.
Rims look cheap and nasty, I liked the old small labels. And monster truck printing on tyres like kids toys, as opposed to subtle little logos in just one place.
    Yuck.

Ride it and stop whinging there is nothing wrong functionally with your over priced headset and aligned logos or not your display of wealth is still very visible to all…

Sorry cookeaa I have to defend font here, it’s not overpriced at all! I sold it! And I’m with the guys sayin I would never have let it out my shop like that!

    Cook, get a grip

As for the language I’m scottish and a literature grad, grammar and syntax are over rated…

I’ve had the ball bearings in the stem etc, used to work in a bike shop. Sadly it’s several hundred miles away

I hate integrated headsets, no fun anymore.

Edit, the South Downs are stunning

    Although agree with Juan

We said no swearing words deary… For what it’s worth, I don’t give a shit about tyre/valve alignment and headset “centering”. If it’s fit correctly an works it’s good for me. It’s a bike, it is meant to be ridden, to get rocks hammering it and to kiss the ground from time to time.

No wonder LBS are struggling, if you have time to do that it means you have not enough bikes to fix.

I’d take it back and complain they’d fitted the wrong colour headset to, a mango headset with no other colour on the bike is way more wrong that the lettering not being aligned.

I nearly went and checked my bike to see if my head set is lined up then I realised that it has not effected performance if it isn’t. To be honest if you can see the bottom cup is out of line with the top your ridding position is all wrong .

I imagine the mechanic looked at the state of your bike and thought you wouldn’t be bothered about the logos being lined up. I know I probably would.

Bike shop should have lined up the logos – not difficult and shows pride in work – and yes I’d be a tad dissatisfied. State of your bike is irrelevant. If near Reading I’ll do it for you.

To all those crowing about performance, I assume your bike (why would you need more than one, after all they all have wheels so who cares? You’re all about things working) is appropriate for your ‘performance’ level.

To all those who aren’t bothered, if you weren’t then why post about not caring

To all those thinking it didn’t matter because the bike is crap, well it may be to you but that’s my bike and I love it. It might be unsightly but it’s mine, one of the very few things I actually own 🙂

I kind of like it. It says: I don’t care about the petty rubbish. I don’t care what anal, idiot forum users think, I don’t care how my bike looks, I just want to ride.

But of course, that’s not what you say… 😉

Even with the anal logo lining up, I do actually really like the look of it and the mango is a good choice. Wish it was bigger and my bike…..

What an odd thread, 60% of comments are slagging the lads bike off and 30% offering support and 10% offering to fix it for free..

IMO from the pics it looks like it used to be a decent enough bike and has been left to rot and now the lads building it back up again..

    All good that.

Although I have to say no matter how cheap the pink cables were, they’d not land anywhere near my bike.

i don’t understand slagging someones bike off from a picture of the headtube when he said it was a WIP and needs the badge reattaching

Is it because it’s not a Soul or Five and the change is scaring people?

I get the impression that most of the ‘slagging’ is in jest (I know mine was) and some here a just a bit too sensitive ❓

not difficult and shows pride in work

This. I’m anal-and-proud, it takes very little effort when installing something to get logos lined up (be it tyres, headset, stem spacers, top cap etc) and shows the installer took the time and thought to do it correctly. If they cant be bothered to line the logos up, how confident are you they are correctly seated?

I imagine the mechanic looked at the state of your bike and thought you wouldn’t be bothered about the logos being lined up. I know I probably would.

He’s a professional installing one of the most expensive items of its kind into a high end frame. P1ss poor attitude if that’s what he thought, if I’d been asked to do the install I’d 1) have done it properly regardless of my own opinion and 2) assumed the headset install was part of an ongoing overhaul/rejuvenation project and that the OP was capable of changing cables etc and paying for the job he doesnt have tools to do.

I always thought the tyre-logo-lining-up thing was massively anal. But headsets are more-or-less a permanent addition to the frame. They should be perfect IMO and that would really bug me. My headset is about 2mm off-centre and I sometimes notice it, let alone way off like that.

Being a bike shop mechanic must be really hard. I bet whoever installed that never even thought headsets needed to be straight and now you’re upset about it. At least give the shop the opportunity to make it right before you let it bug you.

I agree superficial so I spoke to then and they did it there and then for me. The result well be posted this evening.

Now I’m paranoid. My ribbing was in jest and I hope that came across. All my king headsets are aligned. But then I fit my own.

But if I posted a pic with pink/green cables and a mango headset, I wouldn’t expect to get away with it.

    Having fitted many many kings…

…most of them were yours actually Fontmoss, it certainly didn’t need to be specified that it should be aligned. Taking a bit of pride in your work. Yes they can spin a bit when you press them but you should know that before you start. Personally i’d be pissed off that i’d paid for it.

As for some of the moronic comments, (patriotpro, cookeaa looking at you here) this determination to be the hardest manliest most gnarly cyclist is pretty pathetic, it’s like listening to two kids trying to one up in the playground.

It’s also pretty laughable for all those who actually know fontmoss, as his cycling CV would, if we were to play this game of top trumps, most likely shit all over yours. Especially if you ride a patriot, god!

Honestly no wonder all the actual cyclists leave STW to the punters.

should have told them you wanted it aligned before they fitted it. should have said something when you collected it.

don’t use a LBS in future to avoid these issues.

ah the joy of trying to get a dry sense of humour across on a forum 🙂

i was 50/50 jest (hence the barb about souls/fives), but surprised that some of the comments looked to be having a proper pop at someones work in progress

personally i’m not a fan of the headset colour ATM but a few choice components here and there could tie it all together. But for the love of god please don’t use coloured cable housings as i’ve not seen it pulled off successfully once yet

The thread has prompted me to buy some black cables but I see they are still more expensive than the ridiculous colours. Going for these unless the stw fashionistas have something nicer/cheaper?

    BadlyWiredDog

That’s still misaligned though. If anything the reducedness of the misalignment makes it worse. You need to get your teeth around the lower cup and move it gently anti-clockwise until the centre of the N lines up with the badge mount screw-hole.

You’d have been better off leaving it as is – it looked rebellious before, now it just looks incompetent 😉

There was a chap in ‘Cycling Plus’ a couple of years ago who had the logos on the cables of his custom build alligned. 🙂

Sometimes, you can take things too far.

Has your pump fallen to bits yet btw?

i’m thinking lasers should be utilised somewhere in this process to make sure it’s aligned properly
