Aldi Cycle Tool Set

Aldi are advertising a cycle tool set for £199.99 as part of their specialbuys promo. Any ideas on quality etc ??

200 quid seems a bit pricy. 😀

Not had the bike tools set itself, but I’ve got other Aldi sourced tools, like a handy little 1/4 inch socket set and a tap and die kit. I’d not get stuff from them that are in constant use, (screwdrivers, allen keys etc.) but for thing that are more infrequent I’d not hesitate based on past experience.

You may find some things need replacing over time, (cheap chain link tools never last) but generally, yeah, go for it.

Considering the whole thing cost the same as my Park Tools bottom bracket spanner, its great. Its handy for those things you rarely need – like a Park Tools bottom bracket spanner.

generally OK for home workshop, but on the cheaper side of things. £20 is a good price for it.

I bought one a couple of years ago. Tolerances on the bb tool and long handled 8mm hex were crap so I took it back.

Use one of these as carry-along set. Quality is fine given the price,I have the previous version of the tool set and some of the tools are different. Watch the little 8mm to 3/8″ bit as it is easily lost. If you can hold out,wait and see how many your local branch of Aldi has, I got mine reduced to clear for £9.99!. 🙂

having got one as a pressy and last week resorting to trying to use it to fix a bike on a Wales road trip, I’d say a bad tool is worse than no tool at all, and next road trip I’ll be taking my full tool kit like I usually do.

Poor materials, poor tolerances, ineffective, as likely to cause damage as fix what you wanted (it chewed the splines on an alloy cassette lockring with mine).

thanks for reminding me, as I meant to save the patch kit out of it and throw the rest in the recycling bin. So, quite an expensive patch kit…

I was about to point out that it looks identical to the Jobsworth one that PX do, but LoveWookie got there first.

I have one of those to chuck in the car to take to races. I think I’ve only used it once – it seemed fine but not sure how long some bits of it would last in regular use. Oh and it’s really fiddly to get some of the bits in and out, so using the case it comes with to store everything would be annoying. You have to remove two or three other tools to access the allen keys (the one thing you’ll probably need most often)!

I’m an Aldi fanboi but I’ve stayed clear of this. Your better of amassing quality tools over time than a job lot of rubbish. Aldi do some great stuff but you have to be selective. Their gas can mini pump is fantastic value for instance.
