I’ve picked up some top tunes from these threads at about this time of year in the past. So what has been your fave album or collection of downloads?

I’ve been late to Arcade Fire, Suburbs (last year) and Low and this year Elbow – Build a Rocket Boys; Broken Bells and Efterklang – Pyramida.

Give me your wide ranging tastes 🙂

See, I bought a Black Keys album for my boss a few years ago. He’d never heard of them and now they fill the Arena in Newcastle.

Teetoosugars : I mean this in the best possible way but as this is an internet forum, of the written kind obviously….. 😉 it is hard to convey any inflection in my grammar but don’t take offence …….you could create that ^ in a wet afternoon using Ableton Live and a few Production sample packs, if you wish to explore a bit more then have a look through the free production software from Native Instruments/Ableton etc…Honestly!….every single beat/bar in the Hiroshi Watanabe release is from samples so please try it out for yourself – it’s not hard…honestly!.

My fav tracks/ep/albums of the year :

Arse….i forget to include the rest…hang on….

Does he have something to do with booking acts for the arena in Newcastle?

My top albums of the year are Of Monsters & Men & Jake Bugg.

technically El Camino was 2011…

and Efterklang – Pyramida.

, funnily enough i spent an evening in a pizza/italian restaurant wi peter broderick recently through a mate who’s friendly/produced wi him….very intense/interesting guy and if you specifically like Efterklang then i recommend you check out his solo stuff.

What’s floated my boat this year……

– just amazing……..

– yeah…very popular but still good

– shows up the x-factor participants for the useless **** that they really are

– similar in style to above but different enough to warrant a mention

– C’mon?… I had to give a shout out to a mate didn’t i? 😀 Banging track, best heard at 4am in the morning through a funktion one sound system.

– Possibly the most “sweary” band possible fae selkirk, Scott is a true individual and does not comply wi any requests to tone it down vocally – quite **** right!

– yep…..3am music for sure

– perfect for quality headphones or a good hi-fi set-up.

Loads more but i’m hungry so i’m off to scavenge a mince pie fae the kitchen…….

Efterklang was a real surprise. I saw them with the Northern Sinfonia and had no idea what to expect but it was fantastic. I love that thing where people are inspired to create things like that from completely surreal sources. Just makes me glad that we’re all wired differently 🙂

In the same vein as Andy Stott, Claro Intelecto – Reform Club was really nice, no surprise though everything he’s done is spot on.

It came out in 2011 but what the heck, still going with David Comes To Life by the mighty F***ed Up (hope that’s acceptable starring!). TBH I thought I’d got old and I wasn’t going to have albums get under my skin like this any more.

Weird?…. I’ve got one of the original 100 pre-release copy’s of Clare Intelecto (mark stewart) – Peace of Mind, i got given it by Dominic Capello (sub-club) out’a his recordbox 4 odd years ago at a glasgow house party during a very-very drunken conversation about the lack of intelligent downtempo techno music on the scene…..i’ll have to dig it out and give it a whirl this new year :D….yeah…he’s one to watch for sure!

That Renaissance album had me very confused. The Renaissance I know are a band from the 70’s, led by Annie Haslam, who are just in the process of finishing their latest album, whereas that one ^^ seems to be some sort of dance/dj label thingy. Lots of scope for confusion there, I think.
Album of the year? Gonna have to give that some considered thought. I’ll get back to you on that one… 😀

Cheers min Somafunk – bought the Ben Howard EP. This will be the year of rediscovering my love of music 🙂

EDIT: goddamit – didn’t realise I would then have to install memory-sucking i-tunes. Bleeurgh.

First Aid Kit was definitively my favourite album of 2012. Emmylou is glorious.

Cat Powers Sun in second place. It took a while to gain my affection but its gots it’s claws in me now. Nothin But Time the standout for me.

I would also like to include Ryan Adams Ashes & Fire even though it was 2011 but I only discovered it this year. Do I Wait was, by miles, my favourite song this year.

Can’t believe nobody’s said Channel Orange yet… Such a great album, seriously recommend you listen to it.

British album for me is Union by Saint Saviour. She’s a really good singer, and each song in the album is different, not just 15 of the same tracks with different words like you get with some artists.

Jack White and Jake Bugg for me. Jake is now £5.99 on iTunes.
