Check this out. I remember Friend Wood as a mountainbiker way back in the early 80s. Since then he build a series of wooden bodied 2CVs. He’s progressed onto building beautiful ‘bents.

Love that, I knew about his wooden car and to digress, the ultimate wodden car I have always wanted – the Costin Nathan – plywood chassis.

Frank Costin ex-lotus was the cos in Marcos and brother Mike is the cos in Cosworth.

The blog link says he was inspired by Costin’s work. Here is one of the 2CV specials.

dunno if he ever completed it, but the build detail is fascinating, check out the composite body panels made from custom weaved wood lattice

Remember seeing something like that in the west end, Queen Margaret Drive way..
Talking bout the wooden hulled (is how I thought of it) recumbent..
Must have been heavy as it seemed to live on the steps outside the close which was strange.
Must have been a year or two since I last saw it. Looked bonkers but that’s the west end for you I guess!

    Great stuff 🙂
I was at the Glesga transport museum the other weekend, they have a Burrows Wind Cheetah and a Sinclair C5 on show. They opened up a whole debate on 3 wheeler design ,and what was good and bad about them.

    Pete…your 2nd video shows 90kph? (On phone)

Isn’t that around world record territory? I smell an electric motor…

Friend Wood I think was national mtb champion when about 4 people did it in 1980 something

Not sure how safe they would be on the road without wing/rear view mirrors?

Me too. I could never reach that on a downhill with a tailwind on a road bike. He’s maintaining that for longish stretches.

Wow, I remember Friend from many, many years ago at the Neatwork events – he turned up with one of them, and a 3-wheeled wooden 2CV conversion. It kept rollong over in the corners 🙂

allthepal – you might have seen my Alleweder:

Still got it! The Speedy in the Riverside museum was built by my mate Sandy, who is now riding a Rotovelo – the green one on the right in this pic:
