Hello,
looking to buy a trailer for a trip to Saas Fee (switz) in the summer (so its a road going one). Found a couple that look interesting - the Carry freedom Y or the Adventure Cargo. The Carry one has a nice site and lots of info..the Adventure i cannot find even after all the usual google searches.. It seems like the design of a BOB - Anyone got any experiences of either - or another to recommend?

thanks!

I've got a BOB trailer and love it. It has a good bag and good mounting set up. I'd always pack stuff in extra dry bags though.

yeah i looked at that - its the 'adventure' one. But the comments about flimsy build and not taking bigger loads put me off ..
but thanks!

Second the Edinburgh Revolution, very good for the money apart from the bag not being waterproof (seams not taped)
Great for travelling too as it folds up and goes in the bag and you can always buy a genuine BOB bag if you want to

Read the 'trailer science' section on the carryfreedom site. The choice really is between 2 wheel trailers and 1 wheel trailers. 2 wheels are much more efficient than 1 wheel trailers. One wheel trailers handle better off road but you've only really got a fraction of the benefit of using a trailer, as although the weight sits on trailer its is still being balanced by the rider and a surprising amount of effort goes into that. A two wheel trailer doesn't influence the balance of the bike and you can pretty much forget that its there. You can carry more for the same rider input with a 2 wheel trailer.

Where I've really found 2 wheel trailers to benefit is when they are off the bike - if you are using trains and planes to get to and fro from your ride then 2 wheel trailers can be wheeled around like a cart, keeping one hand free to handle bikes or bags or whatever. Single wheel trailers are more of a handful.

Edinburgh revolution across iceland- all off road. added bonus is it folds flat
£125

Black plastic bit on top broke and stripped one side off thread, so it's a slight weak spot. Luckily was able to rethread and the bolts elsewhere on trailer fitted it so canabalised it and carried on.

Bit worrying 3 days from anywhere right high up with no prospect of anyone helping us.

I was looking into getting the EBC trailer last week and was also surprised to see that it was no longer on their website.

Rang them up and they said that they are all out of 08 stock.

New version apparently coming out in Mar, which has an improved bag with taped seams.

No indication of price.

SJS Cycles have something similar to an EBC trailer.

They also have some on their ebay shop without a bag.

in the end ordered one from EBC 3 days before i left and got it day after ordering..

don't bother with the £100 ebay ones from ?Holland if i remember

We've got a bob, have only used it for hauling stuff round town so far but it works pretty well loaded up with about 25kgs of stuff in London traffic. It'll be pulled by the tandem soon for an Easter long weekend trip down the the south coast and back - BKB should be fun.

We were tempted to bring it out to Lausanne in August but have decided instead to travel really light. 😉

Cyclestore also have some with a bag for approx £120.

Be interested to see hear how this compares to an EBC.

Why is the EBC one so good?

I think the EBC one and the other can't-believe-its-not-a-BOB trailers are all the same, they're knock-off BOBs that have been touted by their manufacturer for quite a while, long before EBC started selling them, the company just makes them and sticks whatever stickers they are asked to on them.

If the EBC isn't one of those trailers then it looks a lot like them.

EBC for me was
packable
cheap
better hook up system than bob

in practise

little effect on bike handling
carried all the stuff we needed........three people 2 weeks
went off road with some aplomb thoughI did lose some bits did not tighten them enough
robust
made lots of french winos fill with eny at a 'wonderful chariot' last bit in french
mahanged to get it on the french trains okay they literally hung it up

needs better bag
careful wrapping for the plane or it breaks theough the bag

recommended

Thanks for all the responses...i think im interested in the Caddy Y one for its simplicity and the 2 wheels on the road (thats what it'll be used for..i dont have an mtb anymore..).

Just got to figure out a trip to scotland to visit family and pick one up..no shops in Lausanne sell it..
