Trying to source a backup wheelset and I’d like some Hopes. Anyone know if there are any good deals about? Most I’m seeing are coming in round the £330 mark.

What freehub/ front axel are you after. I have a set with tyres and was asking £295.

Answering the “best place to buy” question rather than “where’s cheapest” but I would put a shout in for 18 Bikes as they include, and most importantly fit, Stan’s tape and valves + two bottles of sealant for £360.

I looked into this recently, freeborn were the cheapest I found. You can get a LOT of tape and vales for £53!!!

I use Wicked Cycles. They are lovely people. £310 and you can choose your hub colour too if you are sensible and don’t go straight-pull

Reliability is the main concern. Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ll take a look at my options.

I’m comfortable fitting tape and valves, but it would be good to get something that doesn’t need me to check it every ride.

    Back up wheelset… I’m intrigued.

Back up for what? Wet weather, huck to flat, collapsed bearing resulting in having to unspoken the wheel to send the hub back to hope?

I have a bike holiday coming up soon and I’ve heard the wheels supplied are a bit hit and miss. I can afford a spare set so I thought I might as well invest in one so my holiday isn’t curtailed because of it. Is that sufficient explanation?

    Also, new shiny wheels! Yay!

I have a brand new Flow EX rim and a Hope hub sitting around as well. May have to return the rim and buy a 650B rim, or could order another rim and build onto that I guess.

Still means I’ve got a spare rim sitting around.

Another vote here for support your LBS.

Mine is surprisingly competitive on Hope stuff (Garage Bikes in Morley – Big Al is a lovely chap) and it’s nice to know that if owt goes wrong it’s only 5 minutes down the road rather than fannying around dealing with mail order.

Been quoted £342 by my LBS. Not bad I reckon.

The quote of £130 to build a wheel after supplying front hub I wasn’t too impressed by.
