Reading the SLX thread, which seems to have a nice cul de sac discussion on chainrings, got me thinking about the 22/36 set up.
I ran this combo on XT chainset & XTR front mech, but about half of all downshifts at the front resulted in the chain shooting straight over the granny ring and onto the BB. The front mech had to be set up at the right height for a 44T big ring as otherwise the suspension would clobber the front mech (Turner XCE) at full compression. I had to abandon it in the end, as I could have good shifting and a battered front mech / frame or bad shifting and a non-battered frame.
So, how does SLX stop these problems happening?
shorter mech cage on the slx mech shouldnt get clobbered.
