Just a few pics to start with, a full build list will follow soon 😉

2012 Custom full fillet brazed 853 Dave Yates

I wanted the frame to be as clean looking as possible & the theme for the build was as much UK made or at least stuff from UK companies

PS Yes I do know the brake hoses are a tad long, that’s on the list of fettling!

PPS Yes I know I could have gone with Pace forks, but I didn’t 😛

The craftsmanship is top notch, of course, but that head angle looks crazy steep… or is it just the angle of the photos…?

    It’s the pics.

68.5° head angle according to my build list and the angleometer app on my phone

Collars and cuffs need to match!

Either an USE Race stem in black to match the post or a Hope silver post to match the stem :O)

I’d agree with timber. A silver seatpost would be the finishing touch. Lovely.

Hope don’t do a silver post, believe me i tried to get them to do one!

Use stems aren’t available in the size i wanted either.

Nice build but not sure about those tyres in anything but dry and dusty.

needs a black stem. i’d have gone black rims too, but each to their own. looks like a lovely frame. what’s the tyre clearance like?

    Very nice indeed.

There is something about custom steel frames that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy

    4ndyB

Tyres are good in most conditions except gloop

Clearance is good, a 73mm BB shell with no bridge and the stays as wide apart as possible

If I can get a black USE stem in time I may swap it out, you know how these things evolve

    Gravity dropper soon methinks

    Cheers for the nice comments

What no fence needs painting, wall needs re pointing etc type comments, c’mon you slackers!

    did you choose the geometry?
Why the incredibly short front-centre and tall front end?

    beanieripper
    Free Member

nice but the colour makes it look like an apollo or something, same for the tyres, gak

Dave chose the Geometry 68.5° Head 70° Seat

Other measurements were roughly based on my ’99 Orange Clockwork as it rides well and fits me perfectly

Pics make it look taller up front than it is & the saddle does need to go up an inch as the pics were taken before I’d even fully set it up to ride

Went with those tyres so as not to detract too much fron the frame, I think that all black tyres would make it look chunkier

But it’s not about how it looks is it, it’s about how it rides.

1st test ride was good, but need a proper ride off road to give a more descriptive review

    m’kay 😆

front centre looks all wrong (unless they are 200mm cranks)
to get some perspective, what’s the wheelbase and chainstay length ?

    4ndyB
    Free Member

Yeah I know I contradicted myself there GW lol

    175 cranks

    Dave’s measurements are

    c/stay’s are 16.5″

    BB height is 12.5″

    top tube is 565mm

    seat tube is 395mm

    not got the wheelbase measurement

those numbers sound pretty alright on paper for a small frame.

does look a bit weird in the pics tho. 😕

    The bike looks dandy . . .

    but that fence is shocking.

    4ndyB

Yeah the fence is shite, but that’s way down on the list of stuff to do, I’d rather be out on t he bike thanks 😉

    Stunning bike – wow

I’d be to nervous to take it out and scratch it!!

    What does it weigh??

That’s lovely. You could always get the oven cleaner out if you want a custom silver Hope post

very nice, i know its rude to ask, but what id the frame cost?

Can’t beat a proper custom frame.
    That’s nice that is.

    Cost of frame??

Like it, what tyres are they?

They’d look good on the single speed explosif I’m building.

    transapp

Charge splashbacks. Actually not a bad tyre, and as quick as a racing ralf

    4ndyB
    Free Member

boltonjon it weighs 24.75lb with lightweight tubes & the spec as you see in the pics

rwc03 yup, oven cleaner or drain cleaner does the trick although I’d hate to get to wrong on a rather expensive Hope Eternity post!

timc & esselgruntfuttock the basic frame was around £1100, but then there’s the extras such as the drop outs, fully brazed BB shell and custom paint, all of which cost extra.

eyerideit they’re Charge Splashback tyres, gvery good in dry/damp conditions, fairly lightweight @ ~400g but they don’t like sharp things like thorns or rocks much ‘cos they’ve got a rather thin carcass

Thanks for the positive comments, I’ve not given it a proper within an inch of it’s life thrashing as I’m still coming to terms with it’s handling.

It’s the comfiest bike I’ve ever had & it’s sweet as on singletrack

Hmm, I’d forgotten about OnOne stuff

The Twelfy’s clamp looks a little industrial, but it’s cheap

Cheers for the heads up I might invest in one of those

it’s caustic so you can strip the colour dye out of the aluminium metal back to silver.

Love the frame, and it’s always nice to see some fillet brazing. 16.5″ stays, turn back the clock! 😛
