…which in the main has been fine. However, today I could do with getting thoroughly shit faced.

Let Jesus in to your life

(This is what I’m drinking right now. No, that is not my wallpaper. I sincerely hope that whatever has driven you to ponder a beer isn’t something awful.)

    Go for it.
Get propper smashed on the drug of your choice.

Then have a good old rant on here.
You’ll feel much better for it.

*insert poor taste Grindr joke here*

Anyway, if it was me and I was on a 18 year streak, it would do my head in to break it now.

…or at least want to round up to 20 years.

If the last time you had drugs was 18 years ago, be prepared to be disappointed…. 😐

I really very rarely feel like it. My will is pretty strong; I lost a couple of months to a Calcutta opium den once, but knocked it on the head when I felt the grip. Just fancy getting leathered now and again.

Ambitious perhaps. But yes, there was always a chance ambition could turn to greed then need!

    You were an ambitious drinker?

Was never much of a drinker. Ambitious in seeking various highs. Anyway drug abuse history aside, I just fancy letting my hair down now and again.

As a similar struggler (drug free for a few decades now), I’d highly recommend ignoring anything you read on this post. Even this.

Well, maybe buy a packet of Hamlets and a bottle of whisky.

12 years drug free me, proper drugs that is as currently supping a wee Glennfiddich.
Had a friend who decided it was time to knock the crack pipe on the head after mistakenly smoking a Rice Krispy that he found on the floor under the settee while looking on the off chance he dropped a bit.

I shan’t fold. I can’t handle coffee even these days. A few years back I got stuck in a shepherds hut in the Himalayas for 2 weeks after winter came early. He showed me his other seasonal work; an entire cellar filled with sacks of fresh charas. Then a special sack of ‘creme’ the finest smoke you just can’t buy. He said help your self. I didn’t crack!

Calcutta? Stuck in the Himalayas? You my good sir, intrigue me. Tell us more of these wonderful adventures.

I hope you have a beard like this god among men.

So many stories young Tom. At 21 after giving up my substance abuse, I lived in India(I’m half indian ) as a servant to an old Sadhu(Holy man) and we travelled all over India for 3 years. Many strange and wonderful times.

I haven’t smoked pot for a long time (too much skunk as a yoof made me ultra paranoid) but if I got offered some of the finest charas creme, I would find it very hard to resist.

I remember reading Mr Nice and dreaming of the goatskin hashish…….

    Impressed at your willpower.

And I thought I was strong-willed… I’ve resisted various temptations for years but I’m pretty sure that with what one supposes to be a panoramic view of the Himalayas outside, a starry eternity above, and two weeks to kill, I would have said ‘don’t mind if I do!’. My only vice these days is expensive Rioja.

Not only that but a natural hot spring in the snow outside surrounded by peaks, close to 5000mtrs! Upper Parvatti valley if you ever get the chance. I was visiting a friend who lived up there and got stuck walking back to the nearest road(2 day trek). For a while it looked like I could have been stranded for longer.

Sounds like you’ve lived an interesting life so far OP. But now your reduced to telling strangers on STW how you’ve denied yourself for 18yrs. WTF man live your life as you see fit, there’s no definitive answers on here.

There is another option. Perhaps the op is only 23. In which case, might I suggest writing a book about your childhood.

14 years here as well, was a nightmare with the sauce when I was a teenager, decided to knock it on the head after a particularly high consequence weekend. Still a fallen man as regards food but so far so good.

My only weak point so far was riding past a thatched country pub in the chilterns last summer when a little voice in the back of my head started whispering things about scrumpy but that’s been largely it.

A good nights sleep and a crisp cx ride in the early morning sun has purged things. I will have to have a look at where last nights pang came from, I so rarely get them its prob a sign that I need to reset the balance somewhere. Could be a reaction to the fact I have to buy a new vacuum today.

I think the book thing was a good shout.
