I thought it might be dull then realised Danny Boyle was in charge, I really like most of his stuff.

I was disappointed…Birdsong for me tonight.

The book is pretty good, the author I felt was an accident waiting to happen. Not seen the film.

Yes. Lots more background in the book to explain why he was so arrogant and survived so long which the film skips unfortunately. Good film and the gore is totally relevant.

Yeah, read the book instead. It is interesting enough to kill time, movie was somewhat disappointing (although watchable). Book gives more detail of his adventures up to the accident.

Not read the book so can’t compare.

Am a Boyle fan though, and thought that as a piece of film-making it’s very VERY good. For Boyle and James Franco between them to make a film which is pretty much one man in one place for it’s entire length and still make it engaging and watchable demonstrates huge amounts of creative talent.

Seems quite good so far….think I will persevere.
Thinking back I have read the book before – seem to remember there was more build up.
May be watching through my fingertips when it starts getting grisly 😀

Didnt go to watch this in cinema as bloke came across as a **** in all the interviews post the interview, I do however like Danny Boyles stuff so will give it a whirl.

Token MTB scene was ok actually 🙂 Nice to see some slickrock. Got to ride there once, amazing grip on everything!

Enjoyed the book and hey, the guy isn’t so very different from many on here, in terms of how he was driven prior to the accident at least. Not an easy film to squeeze out to an hour and half, let’s face it, not a huge “plot”.

I got a bit bored in the middle. Did make me buy a pen knife though.

i thought it was very watchable (the wife loved it). Neither of us had read the book, however the wife has since.

I too changed the crappy multitool I have in my bike bag to a leatherman, with the wifes blessing after watching it, which was a bonus

I echo your thoughts there chomp.
Glad I watched it and listened to the yeses and not the naysayers……
(Nice bit of sigor ros too)

Not seen this until tonight, thought it was a good film got a little bored in the middle.

liked the ending seeing that he still does what he loves, and that he now has a family… just shows your be surprised what you and your body can go through and what you would do to stay alive.

Thought it was pretty good, more yeses than no’s.

That was an ok film, happy I watched it, probably wouldn’t watch it again, won’t be buying a new knife due to it!

The bit about leaving his Swiss Army knife but having to use a Leatherman didn’t ring quite true, I’ve got both and the saw knife on my Leatherman nearly takes my arm off every time I open it. It would be easily capable of sawing through flesh, assuming it was still intact, maybe I missed the part where he broke it.

Yes mate I did…… Wasn’t sure it was worth the risk! 😉

If you watch the film properly though, he says it’s a cheap crappy Chinese copy of a Leatherman and a very well used one at that. And besides, he’s been chipping away at a lump of sandstone for 2 days with it!

My Gerber multitool (basically the same) is phenomenally sharp, fantastic bit of kit.

i got shouted at by my good lady and her friend for pointing out that the tyres he had on his bike weren’t available in 2003, when it was set… 🙂

    good film though
