You might expect this of the gutter press given the ownership and agenda but I find the BBC coverage does more to encourage than dissuade

Unfortunately, the BBC is a shadow of its former self and its news coverage is frankly appalling as it’s scared of its own shadow and has been dumbed down to an embarrassing degree.

It is completely cowed after 14 years of the Tories firstly threatening and intimidating them, then appointing right wing, crony fellow-travelers to senior editorial roles.

The days when the Today programme set the news agenda are long gone. Nowadays the BBC slavishly follows the tabloid agenda which reflects the views of their right wing, non-dom, tax exile owners. They all would, of course, would love to see Nige and Reform in power as he’s in their pocket and shares their views. So they need to keep the focus on the immigration bogeyman and off Reforms other policies, such as privatising the NHS to hand massive tax cuts to their rich and opaque funders.

Luckily, there are still plenty of independent voices telling the truth. Channel 4 news is still as excellent as ever, the Guardian and Independent in print and groups like Led By Donkey’s online. There are still decent  journalists at the BBC. Victoria Derbyshire and Matt Chorley will still happily savage politicians and regularly do. Decent Journalists like Emily Maitlis and John Sopel left the BBC  in protest at being forced to give gobshites like Farage a mouthpiece in the name of ‘balance’.

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens when (or if?) Reform fight a general election campaign fielding candidates in all constituencies.

Their main weapon isn't their mates in the tabloids, or slavish BBC coverage, it’s their savvy use of social media, learned in the Brexit campaign, to tailor disinformation, misinformation and outright lies. This is then carefully targeted at very specific groups, which they are now highly skilled at. The mainstream parties are still a decade behind them on this front and unfortunately so are the regulators

Correct.

The throttling of income has also caused significant damage. Most stories on the front page of the BBC website are doubled up 🤷‍♂️

Though I am looking forward to seeing John Simpson on his ‘Leaders and Lunatics’ tour on Thursday.

Well, nickc, do you think that BBC article is unnecessary fuel on the fire bigging up and ancouraging the flag fliers or a clear denounciation of racist thugs?

That's a very twisted reading imo. It's neither of those things. It's the BBC trying, clumsily perhaps, to write a balanced report. As they are required to do by their charter, a poison chalice because it means they never please anyone. It acknowledges that there are large swathes of people swept up in this who mistakenly perhaps, think it is just about national pride.

Dismissing anyone who flies a flag as a "racist thug" is just alienating people even further and driving them toward Reform.  Yes there are racist thugs amongst the flag fliers, and definitely amongst those coordinating the campaign. However many, most perhaps of those on council estates putting flags on lamposts or whatever are perhaps guilty of naivety but not racial thuggery.

It goes on to acknowledge that many others are worried or intimidated by it and explains some of the background to it.

Also, earlier in the post you were concerned about a Guardian article encouraging racist bigots and now you are saying the same about a BBC news web article.  Racist bigots get their "news" from tik tok and facebook, they are not reading the Guardian or the BBC news website.

You just know that lout on the right does most of his jobs cash in hand and doesn't put it through the books. Then he complains in the (flat-roofed) pub that his taxes are wasted on foreigners in the UK.

I most certainly don't know! Biased bigotry like this is damaging both sides of the argument.

Well, I don't actually know either, obviously. But I'd say, given the storyline, it's quite likely.

Biased bigotry is exactly what those two scrotes are espousing with their initimidatory flag-raising, so I'd say what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander and if they're offended by it...

Tough titty.

Probably too tempting for some people to post videos of a killing. I imagine the mods could end up very busy deleting them. It would be nice to have a reason for closure added to closed threads though. At least it means we can avoid all the premature jumping to conclusions the rest of the internet is full of.

Kind of ironic that this forum's response to the murder of a well known political figure who champions 'freedom of speech' (yeah I know) is to shut down discussion of it. 😕

Weird that it's never happened to me, a renowned gobshite.  Perhaps it's not a technical problem?

The first I'd heard of this "well known political figure" was social media, yesterday, in "Second Amendment gun advocate gets shot" news.

The concept that slagging off the recently murdered may be distasteful aside, here you are discussing it so it's hardly been shut down now has it.  Keep it honest.

Not sure of your point?  Do you think people are deliberately changing usernames when using the forum quote feature?

It's never happened to me either when quoting someone else, but it has happened twice now when people are quoting others but my username mysteriously appears instead. If it's not a technical problem and unless you think people are doing it maliciously (which I doubt)  I'm wondering what you think it might be?

Looks like Farage might be getting his comeuppance about his partner's purchase of an £885k property in Clacton 🤞 either that or she's seen sense & a way to walk away with a few £££

It's not like he's ever there anyway!

If it wasn't for the small problem that he told journalists that HE bought the flat, he'd be getting away with it. He probably will still get away with it... as declaring ownership/purchase on air or to the press probably doesn't count legally has being the resident or the owner... he gets away with all his other lies to the media and the public, why not this one? He's cunning and slippery when it comes to staying the right side of the law.

I steer clear of these heated debates on here but this bloke makes me angry and I am deeply concerned what he may bring should he ever get power.

I thought we wanted to make Britain Great again, well how about making us the world leader in renewables?

Renewables are cheap and relatively easy to produce, by anybody, fossil fuels are expensive and controlled by a few companies who oddly lobby very hard.....

Do people realise why their electricity costs way more than gas? It's like making a Christmas cake, with loads of ingredients, some really cheap like the flour, the brandy less so, but charging every ingredient at the same price as the brandy.... Makes the cake very expensive.

Electricity is calculated at the cost of the highest form of energy to produce it - gas.

But you can't just make gas way more expensive as it is still the most common form of heating so you would plunge millions (more) into fuel poverty probably.

Getting rid of Net Zero will be dire for many companies that have invested millions into it.

What a load of made up bollocks that Guardian article posted by Binners is. You lot don’t even realise you’re being brainwashed and manipulated by the globalist rags that seem to hate the UK and aim to undermine our western way of life to promote their Soros and Gates funded agenda. I bet you all still think that Covid-19 came from a wet market in Wuhan (rather than from the laboratory next door where America was funding gain of function research on Coronaviruses). And you’re probably all fully signed up to the ridiculous notion that a tiny amount of manmade CO2 is the control knob for the climate, and that if we all just impoverish ourselves enough, pay enough tax, and hand over even more control to our private jet flying superiors, then we can virtue signal from our leased electric cars made with the help of forced labour in China.

Well, after the sexual assault of a young girl in our town, I’ve been on one of those asylum hotel protests, and you know what, it was peaceful. Full of families, women and children and nothing at all like the Guardian describe. The two-tier police did help to bus in a load of pro-immigrant protesters in an attempt to cause trouble. I think they were funded by someone because they all had well printed placards, all of similar deign with the same font and colours etc. But we all stood firm and didn’t rise to the bait, as much as I’m sure they wanted us to so they could use it against us.

I’m also taking the family to Tommy Robinson’s free speech rally in London tomorrow. And I’m probably going to be voting for Reform, or possibly Advance UK if they can get their act together in time. And surprise, surprise, I’m not racist, or far-right. But to people so far down the left leaning rabbit hole such as yourselves, then I suppose anything even slightly to the right of Karl Marx must seem like it is far-right.

So here’s a thing. Perhaps have a listen to one of the podcasts that Tommy Robinson has appeared on recently. There are several to choose from. You will learn how he has been mis-represented, smeared, mis-treated, and scapegoated by the media and the political class. And all just for speaking out about some inconvenient truths that have happened in working class towns across the country. If nothing else, you might for just a minute put half a foot outside of your far-left echo chamber, and perhaps even learn something new. You may even understand that there are two sides to every debate, and that the mainstream media, both left and right, couldn’t tell the truth if it’s life depended on it.

I have realised that it is perfectly normal that any civilised country should be able to take pride in its indigenous culture (in our case Christian), should look after its own population first and foremost, and also have the power and the will to control and protect its own borders. And importing tens of thousands of unknown, unvetted men, often from backward cultures where women and homosexuals are not respected as they are here in the west is a recipe for disaster for our Western way of life.

Almost all of the so called ‘asylum seekers’ are young and male, and almost all of them are economic migrants, coming here simply because our spineless globalist leaders are a soft touch. And when successive governments both Tory and Labour have said they will get a grip on immigration, yet continue time after time to ignore the concerns of the majority of the UK people, then sometimes protest, or voting Reform, or flying flags is all we have left.

Then there’s the legal immigration that dwarfs the illegal ones we hear about. Wives, cousins, uncles, extended families, visa overstayers, etc. Whole areas of our major cities now resemble the third world, such has been the cultural shift in these areas. It is estimated that almost 40% of our school kids here in the UK are now from ethnic minority backgrounds. Over 20% have a first language that is not English (or Welsh). And with birth rate demographics as they are, very soon, the white indigenous Brit (people like you and I who ride bikes, drink craft beer and flat white coffee), will become a minority in our own country. And the values we currently hold true to ourselves, such as equal rights for women, non-discrimination of gay people, respect and care for animals, and of tolerance to other cultures, will not be upheld by the new majority who often seem intolerant of Western values and culture, and who will increasingly want things their own way. And that’s when the division, the violence and the trouble will really start to flare up. Some predict a civil war, and I don’t doubt that if nothing is done to address the situation.

So shout me down as a racist if you like, but in doing so, please don’t complain when the troubles start. Remember that everyone’s life story is different, and that people can only be pushed so far before they break.

And before you judge me, I guarantee that all of you would see things differently should you also happen to have a migrant hotel housing several hundred idle, unvetted, and probably sexually frustrated young males just down the road from your own house, meaning that your wife and daughters now feel unsafe going out after dark. So what about our human rights eh?

They weren't. At all. But I was born in Germany, would you see me as an "economic migrant"? Not that I was brought here for money reasons. There are many reasons to either need or want to move. Buy dad serving his country was ours.

I bet you'd change your tune if it was one of your daughters sexually assaulted.

If your rants on here so far were coming from someone she worked with, or lived next to, I'd be very concerned for her safety. I know your type, you can feel the frustration in the words. You're the danger. And there's a whole industry now in winding you up and making you more angry.

So let me get this right, the police are working in collaboration with 'radical-left' groups by laying on co-ordinated travel for counter-protestors in a deliberate attempt to stir up trouble?

There has been human settlement in these islands (apply whatever label you consider appropriate given the time period) for about a million years. During that time we have move from polytheism to monotheism (for the past couple of thousand years) to around 40% of the population currently having no religion.

If the current economy continues to struggle, Farage will be the next PM. This is not because Farage is capable but when the population is increasingly struggle to put bread on table, they will continue to seek new or alternative leadership until they find one that can ease their cost of living.  However, even Farage will only last for one term if he cannot fix the economy - highly unlikely to fix the economy.

The current Labour govt has run out of ideas to fix the economy, the alternative might be able to do some improvements (minor) but in the grand scheme of fixing the economy is doubtful.

Stopped clocks are still correct twice a day. There is a risk of this happening if the "non-Farage" parties split the rest of the votes, or terminal apathy sets in.

@Rubble Rider

Take note of chewkw. Now that is how you troll. Stay the right side of the line but still pop in from time to time in an attempt to wind people up. A fake persona like the occasionally struggling with English due to being from somewhere else takes some of the edge off. Highly unlikely to get a ban. Nothing to really latch on to. Pop up every now and again, have a gentle cast of the line, see what you get. If you get called out you can easily slip away again.

You have to pace yourself.

It's not a risk, it is inevitable that Farage will be a PM if the economy continues to spiral down. Well, might as well let him (people will suffer short term pain) have a go as PM to see what he can or cannot do.  This is the process of filtering out all the phoney leaders.

In the current geopolitical climate, ALL leaderships regardless are under intense scrutiny.

I don't think chewkw's said anything controversial there this time, has he? Of course the economic situation would be easier to deal with if it wasn't for Brexit and Trump... both of which he championed IIRC. Neither possible without the tricks learned from Putin and his team. Farage will make it worse again, but then plenty of people seem to want worse.

Right... I'm also off to watch Hypernormalisation again.

And for those that say "things were already difficult for the UK before either of those votes, because of other choices made"... absolutely... and I can recommend Curtis' most recent series for a take on that you'll probably agree with... SHIFTY. As always, worth it for the soundtrack alone.
