Nor have I seen Mad Max. Im contemplating watching one this evening which one would you say is best?
Yeah Blade Runner does dystopian future way better than Mad Max. Watch the directors cut or the final cut if you can.
The original Mad Max is a hard watch these days.
Bladerunner still looks amazing.
Mad max os good fun but blade runner is a good film
Yeah, Blade Runner for sure
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."
Roy Batty’s monologue at the end of Bladerunner - the director’s cut does it best.
Blade Runner along with Alien are the 2 sci-fi films by which others are rightfully judged.
Not seen Blade Runner either and only the 1977 Star Wars film.

Didnt Rutger Hauer have an input in to those words.
Great film.
Blade Runner 2049 missed the mark for me.
Blade Runner is the better film by some margin
But I'd watch Mad Max without a doubt
Cheers folks. I thought that might have been the consensus.
I don't think Mad Max will have aged just as well as Blade Runner. Bigger budget isn't it.
Mad max was always shit, Bladerunner on the other hand is a masterpiece
You have your answer.
Not seen Blade Runner either and only the 1977 Star Wars film.
I've never seen Star Wars and have no desire to either!
I know I'm very much in a minority here (or anywhere else I've said this) but I don't like Blade runner, found it boring.
Far preferred Mad Max, although the 2nd one is better but really needs the first one to make any sense. ThunderDome though was a pile of poo!
Bladerunner is one of the finest films ever made.
If you’re going to watch any of the Mad Max films then it’s got to be Fury Road. It’s absolutely nuts!!!
I've frequently seen Abbey Works, Port Talbot flaring, but I have never seen Blade Runner. The Mad Max stuff I have seen was dire, to be honest, but that is probably just me.
Blade Runner is slow by modern standards; 2049 is very slow.
I love them. They are films that have been given the chance to breathe.
I bet you haven't watched Convoy (1978), BMX Bandits or Turbokid either. Stick to Mamma Mia

IIRC, he made it up as he went along, it wasn’t in the original script, which makes it even better.
There are many other examples where an actor extemporised lines in a film, either ignoring the script, or just winging it where there was no actual dialogue at that point in the movie. Don’t ask me for any, though, my memory is notoriously bad for such things.
Oh, and while Mad Max and it’s more recent films are terrific fun in a ‘Things fall down, go boom’ fashion, Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 are much more thoughtful films, conceptually, mulling over the nature of what it actually means to be human.
They are very much precursors to the whole AI thing we find ourselves having to deal with right now.
Also well worth checking out is Ex Machina, with Alicia Vikander, as the intelligent humanoid female robot - she is absolutely amazing in the role.

"I'm walking here," from Midnight Cowboy is probably the most famous. I'm not sure the taxi was supposed to even be in their way, the driver may have been out of position. Anyway, Dustin Hoffman just blurted it out on the spot and it was utterly perfect.

ThunderDome though was a pile of poo!
I quite like it in a rediculous couple of hours type of film.
Similarly waterworld.
I can't even remember if I've seen Blade Runner all the way through.
Pretty sure I started it, got bored, turned it off.
I know the above definitely applies to Dune
I bet you haven't watched Convoy (1978), BMX Bandits or Turbokid either. Stick to Mamma Mia
I think Maximum Overdrive is a better fit

I have half a memory that it was a real taxi, they didn't close the street. I may have imagined this.
Love Blade Runner, never seen any of the Star Wars. The film for me that predicted todays' World was oddly Demolition Man.

Notable increase in tacobell recently...
Wargames doesn't feel that for from reality these days.
honestly, I'm coming back in here...
I saw Bladerunner quite late on, i'd heard a lot of the famous quotes from early rave tunes back in the day so it really got me when i saw them in the film, and then the Vangelis soundtrack.... and the visuals... the film is 44? years old and the visuals hold up
yes, it's a slow runner, absorb it....
and same for 2049.. the visuals and sound in that... Denis Villneuve is my favorite film producer by far...
likewise into the Dune films.. slow paced.. and that's what a good film needs, space to breathe.. not everything that happens has to be key to the plot
These are very 80s films with 80s storylines.
Good to watch if you have plenty of time, but you will miss nothing if you don't watch them.

I have a feeling you're right, things were a bit less locked down back then.

Most films are of their time but that doesn't detract from good films being good films. Citizen Kane, Casablanca, 2001, The Godfather etc etc are all redolent of the time they were made but are all great films.
If we are going down the Blade Runner rabbit hole, Dark Star is also worth a watch if you are into how later films were influenced. It was a flop, but did start the career of John Carpenter. In our family, I am the only one who actually likes it.
What is 40 year old films 🙂
I think Bladerunner stands up pretty well considering the age an Mad max 2 was a more fun romp than 1.
Both worth a watch , TBH I’ve seen worse worse new stuff on Netflix.
The thing to remember is they were genre defining and a lot of stuff you see today sort of nicked a lot from them so you don’t see it with the eyes of how we did back in the day.
My favourite old movie is Alien,(Aliens is the best but alien still looks pretty good considering it’s crazy old.
Bladerunner is one of the finest films ever made.

I'm part way through reading a book of how that film was made.
(Blood, sweat and chrome, by Kyle Buchanan). I've not seen Fury Road, and am deliberately holding off until I finish the book. It all sounds utterly bonkers. 🙂
I'm happy to admit the meaning of the film has completely bypassed me...I really like it and will happily watch it again. No idea what it is but it works for me.
I thought the 2049 film was decent as well.
Not sure I've ever managed to watch the film all the way through
Can’t say I thought either was great at the time they were released. Blade Runner needs an open mind to enjoy. Mad max is pretty mindless in itself.
ThunderDome though was a pile of poo!
IIRC that was exactly what powered the place.
I don't really remember Blade Runner. I think I watched it when I was quite young and it probably didn't hit the mark.
Enjoyed the Philip K Dick book it was based on.
Also love the story that they had to buy the rights to a different book with the name Blade Runner by Alan E Nourse in order to use the name. Or something along those lines.
