Would you buy a Panini sticker album featuring the UCI MTB World Cup teams? We wouldn’t be surprised if WBD Sports had one in the works anyway.
Yes, the Mainstream Media Elite Channels are about to be swamped with World Cup soccering. And that’s fine. Goferrit. Unfortunately, this time the hills and forests and trails of the UK will not be quieter places as a result of Ingerland’s games. Well, no more quieter than they usually are at 10pm-midnight. Blame President Trump. Just for everything.
For those of us who follow both World Cups (we do exist yes), let’s have an entertaining discussion as to what MTB World Cup Team most resembles what Soccer World Cup Team. Starting us off: Specialized = Germany..?

Tubolito 32in
- Price: โฌ24.95 (Tubo-MTB), โฌ29.95 (S-Tubo-MTB)
- From: Tubolito

There are a fair few inner tubers out there. There are even more fair few (eh?) people who pack a spoare inner tube in their kit for just-in-0case reasons. Amongst these fairs fews, Tubolito is a sensible choice. Why? Not just because they comes in a nice orange colour (although they do make it a bit easier to find in the depths of a Camelbak) but because they are extremely light and have an extremely flipping small pack size. Upon opening this parcel I genuinely thought Tubolito had inclkuded some road or gravel tubes in it by mistake but it turns out I was looking at the S-Tubo-MTB tubes. Coming in at under 50g it still inflates up to 2.5in and comes with a 42mm valve, it’s about the size of a pack of Panini fottball stickers. Wowsers.
Adidas Alkator glasses
- Price: ยฃ126.12
- From: Adidas

And now we have two pairs of Adidas sunnies. One of which I incorrectly described a couple of FGFs ago. Woopsie! Entschuldigung.
โRepresenting strength, power, and victory, the Alkator embodies the core essence of adidas and its determined attitude toward sports and life.โ Okaaay. If you say so. What do these giggs offer? โZero Bounceโ (adjustable rubber touchpoints to keep things in place), โAnti-Steamโ ventilation in the top bar. It clears fog in seconds, not minutes. โPowerVizinโ lenses are โtuned to highlight roots and ruts in the high-contrast transitions of the woodsโ, lens material features hydrophobic and oleophobic treatments to โrepel water, sweat, dirt, and oilsโ.

Empire Of AI by Karen Hao
- Price: ยฃ12.99

Mark’s latest reading. Coincidentally(?) this week we launched Stan – the new Singletrack Chatbot/Assistant/Know-all. It’s hopefully useful as both a customer services type assistant (“where the flip do I upgrade my subscription from digital to paper mag?” etc) but it may also help with any bikey tech queries or indeed about our content archive (“when was the last time Singletrack reviewed a cargo bike?” etc).
BikeBiz Awards
- Price: N/A
- From: BikeBiz

The categories for this year’s BikeBiz awards were announced a few days ago. Whilst we’re not sure if Joe & Josephine Public can nominate, there’s enough industry bods reading this who defo can. You may wish to look at the Industry Life’ category (Event of the Year, Mechanic of the Year, Unsung Hero of the Year, Cycling Media of the Year). No reason. Insert eyeroll emoji here.

Stale Goods Friday – 2012 KHS Yuma
- Price: ยฃ999.99 (or ยฃ?? in today’s money)
- From: Fresh Goods Friday 169

Old blah: “The Issue 75 (thatโs the one after next) bike grouptest is going to be โsub-grand-29ersโ and the KHS slips into that category with a penny to spare. The Yuma has actually gone up in spec and down in price (by ยฃ200) for this year. Up front thereโs a set of 100mm travel Rock Shox Reba SL with Dual Air spring and lockout equipped Motion Control damper. Making things go is a 2ร10 SRAM X7/9 mix drivetrain and itโs stopped by a pair of white Avid Elixir 1 brakes which match the grips and general monochrome style colour scheme rather nicely. The frame is made from 6061 aluminium with a semi-integrated 1.125โณ headset up front. Itโs double butted with a slight curve in the seat-tube and stays for extra clearance. A refreshing lack of hydroformed shapes tooโฆ Finishing kit is mostly from Kore and the bike has been upgraded with a carbon fibre seatpost for 2012. We like the chunky looking dropouts and brutally fast rolling Kenda Small Block 8 tyresโฆ”
