Hi everyone, hoping someone has had some experience of this and has a fix. I have a set of hope tech x2 brakes. Front is a 183mm and rear is 160mm. I have checked the adaptors are correct, bled them, replaced the pads and even tried spacing the calliper from the disk slightly but this still hasn't helped.
They are set up as hope suggest too.
If i brake hard the front and rear make a terrible noise as if something is catching. If you look at the front you can see the forks pinging back and forth! You can also really feel it through the bars/levers.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Hugh
Check the videos on the Hope tech. pages (link) and make sure that the caliper is aligned to the rotor and the pistons/pads both operate evenly. Assuming that the pads are perpendicular to the rotor (properly aligned), noise like you describe is most often caused by one piston not moving and the rotor being warped as it's forced against the static pad by the operative one. Another possibility is that you've fitted the rotors the wrong way round (arms pointing backwards).
What happens when you spin the wheels with the bike in the stand?
wheels spin freely in the stand.
I've had hopes for years and this is th first set that have done it! I'll try setting up again tomorrow and see how it goes!

Well i tried setting them up again, sanding pads down etc...still doing it.
Spoke to hope today who think it may be bike cleaner such as fenwicks as it can leave a residue on the disk/pads so cleaned rotors put new pads in front and rear...still doing it! At a complete loss now ๐
sometimes your bike and brake are just tuned the same. ... no amount of fafing about will cure, you may need to try a different rotor. had the same problem on my old sx trail that turned up only after I swapped the wheel to a bolt through, a smaller rotor cured all.
If you change rotors, try a Shimano XT,had the same problem with fork judder on mine(mono mini)and over the course of time, had swapped fork, hub, caliper and pads, and still had it until I put the XT on.I put it down to the depth of the braking surface on the Hopes tapering off between spokes on mine, but any "imperfections" such as a saw-tooth pattern could be capable of causing it.
rotor bolts on tight?
What bike have you got? I'm running the same set up with floating rotors on a 2011 Orange Five and am having the same problem. Got new rotor on the rear and seemed ok for a while but now doing it again. Seems to be when the brakes / disc get hot.
Sounds like rotor bolts to me - remove any spacers, tighten it down and align the calliper to the new position
Changed the 160mm on the back of my Five to a 183mm and not had any issues since. Maybe its a resonance thing?
