From 13th-15th October, people are able to go and peruse gorgeous hand built bikes and accessories, and chat to their makers. Sadly we couldn’t make the trip this year, so we’re bringing a taste of the show to these pages. Maybe it’ll make you wish you were there enough to get organised for next time. A Nordic…

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones.
More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments.
I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.
I think it would a good feature to look at the other side of the custom bike world from the buyers perspective – we generally only hear about the makers side of things.
I got a custom frame made… I wanted to love it and tried very hard to love it but it just didn’t do what I had wanted it to do. It was my fault as I didn’t pin down what I wanted when talking to the builder from the start.
If I was going to gat a custom bike again I’d spend more time to work out what I want then discuss it in detail to make sure the builder understood what I wanted and we agreed on how to achieve it. It’s much easier to move on an off the peg bike than it is your customs dream bike that didn’t go how you wanted it.
