Damien Oton’s Devinci Spartan
We managed to grab Damien’s bike post practice at Glentress while he was busy refueling in the Peel cafe (cheeseburger and chips seemed to be pro choice of the day). He’s running 160mm travel front and back unlike some pro’s who have opted for a shorter 140mm back end for this round of the EWS. With the weather turning trails slick, double Magic Marys are going to offer some grip but at the expense of rolling resistance on the transitions.
Damien’s bike is easy to spot by his trademark almost horizontal brake levers, a legacy of his motocross background. Blackbox Jerome Clementz bars are probably a good choice at 750mm wide, some of the tighter turns in the woods are a bit of a handful with proper wide bars.
A 32 tooth chainring is going to help on the long climbing transitions, there’s roughly 100km and 2700m of ascent to cover in the race plus three practice days.
