The force is strong with this one
Everyone’s favourite little big race is back and better than ever. Returning for a third year, Steve Peat and friends bring you the next instalment in Peaty’s Steel City Mini Downhill
Last year there were 200 racers and over 700 spectators lining the course in Greno woods to see what happens when a Mini Downhill race is put on Peaty Style! They were rewarded by some fast racing from the ten year old groms in their first event through to the man himself; all flowing down a course crafted by local trail builders Biketrack.org, before launching into the infamous crowd filled finish bomb hole.
This year you can expect more of the same, with a course that is being tweaked to perfection and will include a new rollercoaster berm section. Timing will again be provided by MIJ organisers of their own Welsh series. As ever, we are really fortunate to be supported by the local bike scene, with stands and prizes confirmed so far from Cotic Bikes, 18 Bikes, The Bike Tree, Big Stone, Over- Ride Cycle Works, Edinburgh Bicycle COOP, Avanti Conveyers, YorScaff, Ticket2Ride, Santa Cruz Bikes, Royal Racing and Monster. Tado will once again be furnishing all the winners with custom made medals.
Local favourites and long-time supporters Bradfield Brewery will be on hand to quench thirsts and Motoré Café will be providing a lift for the discerning coffee drinkers too. If you needed more incentive to pedal harder; Whirlow Hall Farm Café will be providing us with a BBQ and Hog Roast and Streetfood Chef will be on hand to feed you with their award winning Burritos
This is a Charity event and all funds raised from the race go directly back to the Sheffield Wildlife Trust and the trails in Greno Woods. We hope you have been enjoying the improvements to the trails that last year’s race funded.
Entries will be opening on Thursday 21st March at 8pm through British Cycling and as in previous years we expect them to sell out in a matter of hours. To keep up to date on all things Steel City you can visit www.stevepeat.com/steelcitydh and follow us on Facebook and Twitter
Last year’s event received much coverage; here are a few selected examples from Singletrack Magazine, Pinkbike, Sheffield Telegraph, The Guardian and This is Sheffield
