So, I want it to hang proper way up, against the wall but above my workshop bench area. The wooden 8″ by 6″ approx. rafters are situated aligned with me facing the wall – e.g. they run from behind to in front of me, not from left to right.

    Ideas, and pics if possible?

    Thanks

Simplest and cheapest would be two loops of rope on adjacent rafters, one under the nose of the saddle, the other with a padded hook on it for the bars. Hook on a bit of bungy attached to wall below in between to loop around the downtube and secure it inwards.

I do this but wirh two screw in hooks. One under the nose if the saddle and one that the handlebar grip sits in with the wheel turned against the wall. Two Burgess then pull the Bike against the wall of the shed. Nice and tidy and keeps the Bike out if the way.

Has it got to be from the rafters or can you use one of the cheap bike holders you attach to the wall? You mention the bike would be against a wall. I have one with a full sus, I have angled it slightly so the bike runs level. It has enough room to mount the bike with the front wheel forward so the bike actually sits proud of the wall taking into account the handle bars.

Not sure how deep your work bench is so might not be possible but an idea…and is cheap.

In my previous house I had roughly 4 metre high ceilings and use one of these to hoist the bike above head height. I planned to put a second one up so have one still in the box which I actually advertised on facebook earlier this week, I’m only after a tenner for it collected from Sheffield although I could sort postage at cost.

The system works really well and has a nice locking feature so that if you let go of the rope the bike won’t fall but it still comes with a cleat to tie the rope off on to act as an extra safety precaution.

I also have the slightly used one somewhere (removed it when I moved out) if you want a pair

I can’t make the image work from facebook so email me if you want a pic – matt@18bikes.co.uk

Servers I didn’t mention my “wall” above the work bench (2ft deep btw) has a large 6×4 ft window in it. Matt & Synergy my rafters are just too narrow to bolt those ceiling mounts into the right way around, but thanks.

Two hooks and a bungee though, hmmm. Would my forks be ok if it was like this for long periods:

Yes. In fact, if they are Foxes they’ll probably benefit

Storing the bicycle upside down and inverting the fork allows oil to run down to the foam rings and keeps them lubricated and ready for your next ride.

Sids, but ok. So I think id have a third “loop” in the middle to stick a bike lock through and through the frame. So it’s of to the DIY store to look for some hooks with wide threads I guess.

I hang mine the right way up. I have shimano brakes which don’t recommend being upside down for long. I’ll get a pic tomorrow

Really? It’s a sealed system so I can’t see what difference it would make. I’ve not had any problems in several years of storing mine “top to tail” on the wall and I can’t recall any issues from storing bikes in bike shops (past and present) that way either.
