Should I buy a Lego Technic Kit?

I have a strange urge to buy this Lego Cargo Plane

Should I? Will I be disappointed?

I am not 16 and my wife will not be impressed!

Any recommendations for more “grown up” model kits that don’t involve lots of glue and paint?

Of course you should!

Mindstorms is another one to consider.
Even the older NXT2 set is amazing – it has so many model instructions online, books for inspiration, etc.

One of the best things about being a grown up is that you can just buy a massive Lego set whenever you fancy. And then drink beer whilst building it.

My 4yr old son is now really getting I to Lego. Everything he makes has a “booster” on it to make it go faster.

That Unimog is a great bit of engineering. Took me about 12-16 hours I think to build, now lives in my office at work. still have to get it down to mess with it every now and again.

Lego is essential for a child’s development. If you don’t have your own then make a plan: relatives, neighbours, kidnap, etc.

When my crane arrives I will direct my wife towards richmtb and mrblobby.

Just realised I already own 42009, it’s in the queue for construction behind the green breakdown truck and the pneumatic excavator. I suspect one of the kids may have cracked open the Mindstorms EV3 sometime in the last week or two while I’ve been at work.

My wife rolls her eyes when she gets a “you have a parcel” notification in our mailbox.

Just got my dad the camel for a birthday/retirement gift. Now I don’t have kids, so not sure but pretty sure the noises he made were similar to that an excited child would make… What have I started?

The Defender isn’t an official Lego model it was created by this guy.[/url] His Shelby GT500 is fantastic. It’s cost me a fortune to assemble the parts for the Land Rover so I’m desperately trying to tell myself I don’t want to build the Shelby.

I don’t need the NXT 2.0 as I’ve already got the EV3 kit which we’ve just assembled into the Mindcub3r:

My daughter helps me with the Technic stuff but is much happier playing with Lego Friends, which I just see as gateway Lego to the much harder stuff.

I have that somewhere. Got when I was about 12.

There is a Lego shop in town. Some of the buildings are even better than the vehicles. And lots more expensive.

Bought my dad (70 yrs +) the bi plane, he loved it. Mrs TG a fan of architecture, so the architecture range a regular fail safe for birthdays and Christmas. Go on, treat yourself, if you haven’t already.

For the record, I’m dead impressed with some of the kits my son has built, but to build them myself, alone, for my own pleasure? Er, nah, that’d just be odd. Like a grown woman dressing up Barbie dolls.

Don’t buy the kit(s)

Buy a load of lego technic assorted bits (people bored of it sometimes present bargains on eBay) and get creative.

Or, you can get books, find ideas online etc. to create your own projects.

The problem with the kits is the specific items they design that you only complete that particular thing with, and conversely aren’t that useful for other stuff.

If you’ve seen the recent Lego movie, you’ll know what I mean…
