Riding nr Gatehouse of Fleet?

Anything v local to Gatehouse of Fleet? Obviously aware of Kirroughtree etc but wondered if there was anything that would be good for a couple of hours as there for New Year with family.

Theres a forest literally 2 miles north of Gatehouse, once your into it, head north west and theres an old railway line, it heads off in the direction of Moffat. Huge viaduct up there, and loads of old damns and interesting stuff.
Riding isn’t amaze balls, mostly just very quiet overgrown forest track, but its quite scenic and the viaduct is fun to play on.

Also theres a country house estate within Gatehouse (between the town and straddling the main road) which has waymarked trails in it, its always quiet and once your under the main road (between road and the beach) you generally have the place to yourself. I think there was an area of bombholes which make for hours of jumping chaos if the mood takes you.

Thats teh viaduct, head north and towards the resivoirs if you want peace and quiet.

On that route there is a small mountain road out of gatehouse, over the top turn left and there is a rough gravel track upto a transmitter which has good views and then a good descent.

Somewhere in here are bombholes and fun times, mostly swampy though IIRC

You could drop these guys a line – I had an email from them last week, saying something about going out riding over the holidays and inviting people along.

Can’t get at that email right now, so the details are a bit hazy, but it’s worth a try, as Peter is a very helpful & friendly guy.

Cally Forest is the one in the town

best bet is get an OS mpa and go exploring – v nice coastal routes in the area, plus massive potential in galloway forest park, gatehouse/laurieston forest
