Er...this is new to me. What is 'Black Friday'?

the first Friday after Thanksgiving in the USA. Traditionally a really big spending day in the pre-Christmas rush. Like lots of American things, it has become imported to the UK as a means to get Christmas buying into the final month's push towards Christmas.

If there's stuff you want, today's a good day to look for it.

Black friday is an annual day when shops heavily reduce prices on certain items - admittedly some of it is tat, but there are some bargains out there if you're quick.

Edit: ^ what he said!

Just more american infiltation 🙄

We've only had for 90 odd years, one would have thought we'd be used to it by now

Oh ... and it's black becuase it the first time retailers are actually making money on the year

Late edit ... sorry to the fella below

so called 'Black' because today is the day when retailer's income finally becomes enough to cover their costs for the year - putting them into the black for the first time.

Wiki the source of all true knowledge suggests it is from the 60's which was not 90 years ago and black is to do with smog caused by the traffic . I had not heard of this till this year but shopping has never been a hobby of mine.

Tried to buy some of the Soundmagic headphones on Amazon black friday deal - waited for the deal to become active (watched the Amazon timer tick down to zero) then went straight to put it in my basket. It immediately became unavailable and I couldn't do it so I quickly went to get in the queue for one and found I was 350th ish 😯 in the queue. All in the space of around 15 seconds.

Something fishy going on there. 🙁

PC World were having a "Black Friday" sale.. not a huge discount, but about the same as the academic discount mrs xiphon would have used in a few months.

Yeah, a lot of the old skate shoe manufacturers seem to produce more indie/fashion shoes/plimsolls rather than old chunky skate shoes these days.. still £12 isn't too bad for a set of DCs..
