Er…this is new to me. What is ‘Black Friday’?

the first Friday after Thanksgiving in the USA. Traditionally a really big spending day in the pre-Christmas rush. Like lots of American things, it has become imported to the UK as a means to get Christmas buying into the final month’s push towards Christmas.

If there’s stuff you want, today’s a good day to look for it.

Black friday is an annual day when shops heavily reduce prices on certain items – admittedly some of it is tat, but there are some bargains out there if you’re quick.

    Edit: ^ what he said!

so called ‘Black’ because today is the day when retailer’s income finally becomes enough to cover their costs for the year – putting them into the black for the first time.

Wiki the source of all true knowledge suggests it is from the 60’s which was not 90 years ago and black is to do with smog caused by the traffic . I had not heard of this till this year but shopping has never been a hobby of mine.
