  • Mallorca mountain biking help!

Hi all, in Mallorca for the next 10 days on a family holiday.

First holiday we will have been on without me bunking off for most of it to either ride my bike or go windsurfing. After 10 years of holidays to windswept beaches and now with a one year old, I reckoned I owed my wife one, So I’d resolved myself to beaching it up this time round!

    However… Mallorca looks ace!

Managed to go for a sail today and now several (short) windows of opertunity have opened themselves up to me for riding

Based in port de pollenca. Anyone knows anywhere close to go for bike/hire riding for a couple of hours?

Not had a change to find/enquire in a lbs yet as I’ve been somewhat caught on the hop 🙂

    Thanks!!

There is a good LBS in Alcudia – chainguide. They hire out mountain bikes and provide guiding if needed. May be worth getting in touch with them.

I had a similar thing, the mountains took me by surprise! Ended up hiring a Canyon Spectral from ze germans in Peguera and found some great trails in my own.

Peguera appears to be a long way from where you’re staying, but there’s both a hire place, and a trail centre there. Not ridden it, but looks fun!

    German info here…

Have a look on strava, theres a great mtb descent from lluc monastery, amongst many more.

Theres a trail round the back (sea side) of puig major thats worth a ride

If you want some guiding(and bike hire) toni at http://www.tramuntbike.com can show you around .

For guided tours across the NE and NW of the island try:

    In Soller

    In Cala Millor

    For routes download
These routes often take a bit longer than the guide says, or maybe I just pedal slowly?

For a delivered mtb you can try bike experience
Their Trek Fuel 29ers ride well in Mallorca

Parc Llevant Natural on the coast near Arta is worth a visit (about 30mins from Pollenca) stop at Son Serra de Marina for the sunshine bar on the beach on the way back for great food, or drop the family for a beach day there (can also rent paddle boards) and go to Parc Llevant!

I’m going to be staying in between pollensa and Porto pollensa.
    Are there any trails nearby?
Last year I saw hikers coming off a trail which was signposted with a number.
    Can we ride them?

I did this guided tour. It was ace. 30k and 1230m climbing. The descents are excellent and there is hardly any road. Took me just shy of 4.5 hours total.

You can take the walking trail all the way up to lluc via Binifaldo like I did here:
https://www.strava.com/activities/138871452 [In my head I’m remembering the “GR6” but on the map it seems to be “GR221”]

Otherwise there’s not a lot to ride directly from your base. I’ve enjoyed the back roads around to Caimari before returning to Pollenca off road from Lluc, but that’s a fair old day out. You’ll find little fiddy bits around and about the place, but not much to get your teeth into; you need to get up towards Lluc!

I can strongly recommend this guidebook:

No idea about hiring bikes, though, sorry! Have fun 🙂

    Thanks all!!

Peguera looks like exactly the thing I am after, shame it’s at the wrong end of the island though

Think I’m gonna get one of those treks delivered, perfect!

Now just need to find some local(ish) trails (and not get lost)

Looks like we are staying in the same area. I’m going to ask around in town this evening but as others have said it’s seems a bit of a slog out to get anywhere from here

Just need to drive out to a decent trail head and start from there I think. Will have a look at Lluc too

    Will report back any findings

These guys do evening rides, they’re good value and friendly

    http://2gocycling.com/

They’re based on the other side of the nature lagoon from Tolo’s, set back a couple of streets from the main drag

Good stuff! Only this morning, I fired off an email about this very tour 🙂 Hopefully going to hire a Trek Remedy off them as well

I can recommend Chainguide mentioned above. I did their Rock and Roll tour around Bunyola in April and it was ace. Bunyola is a fair drive from Pollenca but they provide transport from the shop in Alcudia.

One bonus is they have a brand new fleet of Radon Swoops with Magura brakes that can easily be swapped over from Euro to UK style. Makes a massive difference to confidence levels on the descents!

    HI all.

    Back now. 🙁

Hired a trek and bumbled about for a couple of days. Found a few trails around lluc.

Now i was off work, it was hot and sunny and the scenery was amazing so i’d dare not say it was rubbish but i just don’t think i hit the good stuff.

I went in to 2gocycling but found then not particularly helpful and they only offered some s***ty looking hardtails for rent (to be fair they had just been swamped by a large group of roadies from london when i went in.)

i found these guys http://www.bikeandkite.com and had some very encouraging discussions with them. Unfortunately time conspired against me so i can’t actually recommend their service but they seemed to offer exactly what i was looking for.

    Thanks again everyone
