Thanks to Tom who sent his Hope 2 light in for a bit of tweaking
the good news is it is doable with minimal metal cutting

Sadly I could not get a beam shot of before the tweaks
and will have one soon from after.

heres what one looks like in bits

first up it needs a switch so the hole wants opening up to take a clicky switch

Then as I have used a http://www.taskled.com Lflex driver board
it does need to be heatsinked to the light housing
and Hope have thought about this and provided a tapped post right in the correct place so a little piece of ali gets countersunk and bolted to this post

and the driver is adhered with some special thermal tape that comes with the Lflex

the old leds on stars need removing and the new ones gluing in their place I have used the latest U2 XMLs

they are a direct swop and the mounting plate is bolted back in place with some thermal goop to aid heat transfer.

I dont think it will handle the full 3 amps drive current but will give it a few tests at 2.5 amps

a few beam shots will be along when I take the hound for a walk later

Forgot to say the beam is pretty good using the stock hope optics so a bit of money saved there.

Lumens approx 1500 on full dont know what the old leds gave

thats a hell of a jump in output - I think the older (all black casing) Vision 2s put out @300 lumen!

Burn times will of course suffer if max power is used

no the hope 4 is a right bastid to modify and needs a new heatsink machining plus too much work to make it viable
I have only done 1 and it took 6 hours after which I vowed never again .

I cant say as the hope I got seemed to not work
the battery is a normal 2 cell job so I would say maybe a 2.4 mah job

the light pulls 2.5 amps on mental
and each level below approximately halve the last level

maybe one of you owners could fill in the gap and say what runtime you get from the small battery

I get pretty much the full claimed 1:45 on "normal" High power on my Mk1 Vision 2s.
but I'm very interested in the upgrade.
How much?

Normal run time would be about 1hr 40 on full, which i believe is 480lumen (not sure if this is actual or theoretical)

I would be very interested if you could turn mine into a max 1000 lumens
If that means I could use the same batteries which I have 2 of them so if they only lasted 1 hr each on full that would be great?

This was not a touting for business thread just a follow up to the other can hope 2s be upgraded thread.

it was more a yes it can here is how .

material costs were

Switch approx £6
Lflex driver £15
leds approx £6.5 each so £13
scrap of ali

2 hours work but probably 1 hour now I know what to do .

Its a lovely little housing, but is now a little outdated/under-gunned compared to other lights. Upgrade service sounds superb. You ought to sell the service to Hope!

OK projected runtimes based on power draw from a 7.4 volt source
and the surmise that it is a 2.4 mah battery

level 1 only good for a commute light 60 hours
level 2 slightly better commuter light 11 hours
level 3 probably like the old leds 5 hours
level 4 2 hours 15 mins
level 5 just under an hour

OK so here are a few approx stats

there is not a chance the light housing can take the leds to their maximum
so have been trying the lower drive currents to find a balance between heat and battery run time

running at 2 amps drive max

level 1 = 336 lumens approx runtime = 5 hours
level 2 = 790 lumens approx runtime = 2.5 hours
level 3 = 1344 lumens approx runtime = 1 hour

so ok if you have a big battery or 2 small ones .

turn the drive current down to 1.5 amps

level 1 - 280 lumens approx runtime = 7 hours
level 2 = 450 lumens approx run time = 3.hours
level 3 = 1036 lumens approx runtime = 1 hour 45 mins

Heat wise the driver will dim the light to level 1 if it gets to 60c
not very likely in our evenings when moving along but it does dim dow quite fast sat on my desk

I have enough drivers to do 19 conversions
with no more available until mid november
