    OK

Am looking for a new road bike Endurance geometry as am old, and light as am rubbish at hills

Ideally would want 30mm tyre capability but will be happy with 28mm

Carbon frame and a level of comfort at the front end as well as the rear

    Any suggestions?

    thanks

Love my Canyon Endurace, great bike and the Ultegra version is around £1500

    thanks Good suggestion

I should have added disc brakes too

How did you find the accuracy of the fit with you Canyon?

my £1599 Giant Defy (theres only the frame left here, i bought it for that reason and sold the rest of the kit) fits 30mm Challenge Strada Biancas – they measure big as well,

and light as am rubbish at hills

    i think mines just under 8kg – i wouldn’t sweat the extra 500g

I had a 2015 Defy Advanced Pro weighed in at bang on 8kg and I think the 2016 model has a lower price around £2300 with same specification

last set of tires I ran were Conti GP4000II in 28c which came up huge, measured width at 31mm. great run at 80psi to balance the front/rear comfort as the rear of the Defy was incredibly smooth whilst the front could be a little harsh in comparison

Do those carbon / Advanced Defy’s have mounts for guards as per the Alu version?

Just got myself a Merida Ride carbon and love it. There’s a disc version too.

If you can live without discs (no loss in my opinion), this German shop will build you a Defy Advanced SL for a little over budget. This really will be a 7 kg bike and not “7 kg”. The frame is the lightest Giant ever made.

Frame only option is £1300, which is half original price. Even an ultegra build and Shimano wheels will be in budget.

Mate has a trek domane and its the comfiest road bike i have ever ridden. Its almost a softail and has a very sit up/non racy riding positon. Think its about 8kg but would check. And discs are great on it.

thanks for all these suggestions chaps

Funnily enough Defy was on my original list – so great to get confirmation

I’ll check out the Merida and Trek too

Any more suggestions welcome – was wondering about one of these over budget and over weight BUT its Italian 🙂

Any more unusual choices out there which would be cheaper or lighter

I’ll no doubt get flamed but…
I’ve just bought a Planet X Pro Carbon Force, upgraded the wheels to Ultegra and fitted decent Conti tyres. It is 7.3kg and totalled £1080 (They had one of their very rare discount weekends a few weeks ago..)
It rides really well and climbs superbly (compared to either my CX bike or my Genesis 853)

Whoever at BR photographed that Wilier in small-small, and with no pedals, need a flogging.

    Cannondale Synapse?

I just got one of these delivered in my shop and really impressed:

    Orbea Avant[/url]

Full carbon (lovely frame – £1500 RRP), fully hydraulic discs, 11spd 105. £1900

A few versions up to £3199 for the posh one with Di2 n that. If they did the same thing but as a CX/Adventure type thing I would already have one, but don’t like sharing my rides with cars 😀

2016 Defy Advanced Pro 2 here, with GP4000’s in 28 flavour. With a bit of LBS discount it would come in on budget and ticks all the boxes – Ultegra 11 speed, hydraulic discs, hugely comfy

I forgot to say that Orbeas come with a lifetime Warranty on fork and frames .
