Looking at purchasing such an item, and as i have VERY short legs i’m wondering exactly how the measured amount of travel is measured – i.e. is it measured from the collar to the seat rails or to the top of the ‘droppable’ amount of post.
Yes, I KNOW that 5″ is 5″ wherever it’s measured from but as i only have a limited amount of post exposed its quite crucial.
Actually, when is the 4″ Reverb available?
That German one for £65 on E-bay is a contender at 85mm travel but it seems it has some reliability issues?

Muddy, is the ebay german one called XCL or XLC or something? If so, I’ve got one. The only prob I’ve had with it is that the remote lever is a bit piddly and exposed, so I’ve knocked it when racing and ended up with a high saddle again in the middle of an enduro DH descent… Otherwise it’s bearing up well after 5 months or so.

Would that be the bar mounted lever?

TBH it looks good purely because its a short travel post, 5″ would be too much i reckon as i only have about 155mm from the top of the collar to the bottom of the saddle rails.

Gravity Dropper have info on the length of post showing from frame needed for the different drops of their posts. Only useful if you were thinking of getting a Gravity Dropper.

All options are open at the moment – i’ve £200 in xmas pressies to spend! 😆 I’ve not looked into them much before now so don’t know what would be the best for me.

Yes, the bar mount remote lever.

I’ve been looking into dropper posts over Xmas. Favourite for me is a Gravity Dropper, mainly because they are a simple mechanical design and they come in 27.2mm dia.

    Gravity Dropper length info.

We had to get a 100mm Command post for Katie as the 125 was too long

Its a Specialized one. Ive had the 125mm version for a while now, bought it on here and its great. Got katies from ebay in the States and Abigales from ebay in Australia. Got them both for silly low prices

MD I’m a midget too, my inside leg is something like 26.75. I have a reverb and its fine. I’ll do some measuring in the morn. TBH you can use the reverb at less than 125mm as its infinitely adjustable, just stand over and let it hit your bum. Bingo correct height.

im also swithering about which dropper to get, leaning more to the gravity dropper turbo but was considering the reverb as it does look nicer, but GD just seems more reliable with less to go wrong.. and it seems they now do the GD in a 31.6mm.

Hmm, decisions decisions. TBH i’m confused as to which one to go for now! Seems to be a plethora of designs that all have conflicting reviews of them!
£200+ is a lot of cash to be dropping on the wrong kit…

Actually my mate rides with a Gravity Dropper, I use a Reverb. His GD broke and he had to send it off to be fixed.

Dont rely on reading the internet to find out which works better than the other. You tend to only read what sounds bad, people dont often post when stuff just works.

Having seen the GD, Reverb and Crank bro one in action, I am very happy to be using a Reverb.

At the moment i’m hovering ‘tween a Command Post and a Reverb, both expensive bits of kit if reliability is suspect though.

Not avaialble yet. The last update I had is for delivery in week 4. I’m prepared to wait as I want to buy it through a lbs for the warranty support and can’t justify the price of a lbs bought reverb. A Gravity dropper is far to ugly, KS come thru’ superstar, and the others appear the same as the Giant post but are much more expensive.

If you have concerns about reliability go for one from a company thats big enough to fix it and has a local (in your country) service center thats good.

Reverb has a service center that very good, based just near Windsor. They have had good reviews on here. Ive used them for my hammerschmidt and they were great.

Can anyone tell me the comparative width of the bushing at the top of the bottom section of post (the part that fits into to seat tube) for both/either the Spesh Command Post and the Reverb please?

Need to know the overall length of the minimum amount of exposed section of the posts as i only have short legs.

I have a couple of KS i900s. the first one got a bit sticky after 5 months, but a quick strip down, regrease and cable swap and its as good as new. No issues with my second one as of yet.

They come in 75, 100 and 125 mm drop lengths and are a bit of a bargain compared to the reverb (although probably not as good). I got mine from Jenson for about 120 quid, came within 2 days but the tax man violated me for a further 60 quid 🙁 Wiggle do them for £180 also.

Either way get a dropper of some kind, best thing on my bikes by a long shot.

I spent the wopping sum of €127 on a joplin 4 (no remote) off probikeshop.fr yesterday although now they are up 30€ more now. They have reverbs (with) under 200 yoyos too, but only the 30.9mm. Would’ve had that otherwise.

    muddydwarf

Well my frame (Marin Wolf Ridge) is a 30.9 so no problem there, i’m still struggling with the overall height tho’.
At the moment i seem to have 155mm from the top of the seat collar to the bottom of the seat rails – my problem is that i don’t know if the 100mm reverb or 100mm command post will fit into that space. Don’t want to drop £200 on a post to find out its too big 🙁

Just measured my Reverb and is approx 187 mm from seat rail to bottom of the shiny bush thing – ie the minimum height it will be when fully extended if you shove the post as far down in your frame as it will go.

Only issue I’ve had with the Command Post is grit getting in the cable and causing that to stick – i.e. nothing to do with the post itself but a lack of cable end sealing which is disappointing but easily sorted.

I think a few others are like that as well (X Fusion?)
I had a remote lockout for a Fox Float shock and had this issue, big time. I only had it on the bike for a month or so, until I got fed up with it as the cable needed cleaning/replacing too regularly. Granted, the cable will be higher up the bike in the case of a remote seat control, but I still think it will cause problems.
The Gravity Dropper appears to be completely sealed.

I’m looking and the one thing I like about the Specialized is the 3 position settings, Many of the guys I ride with say they need to play around to get the correct middle setting. I like my saddle in either normal ride, descending but need to pedal or just out the way.

Just got back from holiday, my 125mm Comand post fits a small Wolf Ridge with no problems. Measurments if you still need them

    100mm drop

Max amount into seat tube is 210mm

From seat rail to bottom of post is 380mm

    125mm drop

Max amount into seat tube is 235mm

From seat rail to bottom of post is 430mm

the bit in the middle [the bulge and nut] on both is 30mm

Hi Tracey, could you do me a favour please?

Would you push the post as far down into the frame as it will go, and with the post fully extended (100mm version) measure the distance between the top of the seattube and the middle of the saddle rails please?

I’m having real difficulty finding out whether the 100mm version will be short enough for me, and it appears the 75mm Blacklite version is not imported into the UK – and US/EU vendors won’t ship to the UK.

    Thank you.

EDIT: Just used your measurements and i don’t think it will fit, 10mm too big.

Just a comment on reliability for you.

I bought 2 Joplin seatposts secondhand earlier this year and have since got rid of both of them.

One was for my bike and the other for my wife’s.

Mine worked okay for about a month and then a wet gritty ride in Wales destroyed it and it would sag by about 2 inches when I sat on it. The other was rigid but would not return on it’s own.

The UK distributors however are very good and even sent me a free lever as I wanted to take the remote lever off.

You can service the Joplin but it is a real pain in the backside.

I have just bought a new 2012 Reverb for £170 from a guy on EBay so look around there are some god buys about.

had the exact same thing with a brand new one after a wet lap of Afan. Stripped and cleaned it, poured the dirty water out 😯 , fitted a neoprene boot (despite them advising against this) and its been fine since.

The weak point on the joplin is the top seal which is pants, some form of gaiter or boot solves it, as apparently does fitting a Fox shock seal which is the same size (never done it but discussed in other threads).

After a year of riding my Reverb every week and weekend I did open it up to look at the condition of the seals – they were fine, dispite all the mud and crap from winter, spring, summer and autum.

    I was amazed actually.

    No boot or crud catcher.

    Thanks Tracey.

Unfortunately for me, it is 10mm too tall, i need a maximum extension of 160mm 🙁

Borrocks, I would ideally like the 75mm Command Post Blacklite but it’s unobtainable in the UK and i can’t find an overseas retailer willing to ship.

    Hmmmm….
