One reason I love the On-One slotted drop out is the versatility for SS, deraillieur and Rohloff. Ive had the rohloff in the Ti29er before and have now added it to the Pompetamine. Obviously there’s a problem of mounting the twist shifter on drop bars. So I picked up a computer/accessory mount for £10 and it works really well. Not exactly sure what height above or below or behind the bar tops to put it, but easy to adjust once Ive had some practice time.

I also modified by Stoner-bone torque pin, drilling an extra hole so that I can mount it inside the rear drop out to pick up the torque plate. The dimensions of the Pomp drop out are not the same as the Ti29er drop out so I couldnt just use it as was.

The reason for doing it is so that I have a versatile bike for the annual holiday. I need to be able to tow Jr on a tag along on roads and paths, but also want to be able to go and ride some VTT stuff on my own. The SS MTB would be a bit limiting on French hills and with Jr balast coming along behind. Im hoping this will be a jack of all trades even if a master of none.

You’ve probably already seen this. A lot more expensive than your solution but might be nice when you’ve some money you just have to get rid of.

does it slide on around the bends or split in two – I cant tell from the instructions? £105 is bit steep though 🙂

Think you need to look up the meaning if the word “versatility”

why not show us GW by doing a post that is not an obvious troll?
You are the ultimate STW one trick pony.

what’s “trolly” about my statement?
His bike is about as versatile as my 10 speed Vindec racer was in the 70s.

GW – not wishing to answer for Stoner but I think he was referring to the bikes ability to change between the various geared options easily, as opposed to what the bike can cope with terrain wise.

His use of the word versatility seems pretty apt.

Didn’t come across that way.
Almost any hardtail or road/cross bike can be run ss or geared fairly easily (Hub or derailleur)

He’s talking about a slotted drop out specifically designed to be hassle free – I can’t see how he could have made it any clearer 😀

I keep a slot dropout Inbred frame around primarily just because it is so versatile. It’s been geared and singlespeed MTB, a geared commuter and tourer and I’m thinking about getting an Alfine wheelset for it as well.

The shifter is made in three parts to allow fitting on drop bars and other bars with curves. It can be mounted on a classic MTB bar.

From SJS website.

My old Vindec had horizontal drop-outs.
Nowadays we have the choice to run a SS tensioner on a geared frame and keep the same chainstay length so I don’t see your horizontal drop-out frames as being particularly more versatile.

A normal bog standard off the shelf hardtail would have been far more versatile for the riding described and a lot less hastle

This thread is full of “GW WIN”!

Well done, time spent well.

Cheers Kuco. I assume the inner cylinder needs to be split and the outer ones are of a large enough diameter to navigate the bends.

Rides brilliantly – just took it out round local “CX” trails and it’s almost better than as SS, since you can wind it up on the road sections. Oddly, it doesnt feel as draggy as in the 29er? Weird.

37c SB8s do NOT like mud though, do they…

Only snag, knees catch on the shifter so have had to rotate it out the way.

knees catch on the shifter

Best get a bigger frame…. (just to annoy GW).

Looks great. I have a hankering for a Pompetamine, even though I don’t really need* one.

*Yes, I know….

TBH if my pompino didnt hold such a great sentimental value to me Id have got rid of it and just use the pompetamine for all my road/cx/kids/touring stuff.
