Best way/courier to post a full bike.

Im buying a bike but the chap lives miles from me so we have decided to post it.

has anyone got experience of posting a full bike in a bike box.

are there any companies out there you can recommend to use too.

any help would be great

Loads of ppl do it, loads of recommendation on previous threads but when I’ve checked them out, as soon as you add any sort of insurance to the value of the item it seemingly gets ridiculously expensive…

I drove some forks over to J-tech lately as it was reasonably close and a nice drive, rather than spend XX on a courier with appropriate insurance.

Anyone want to prove me wrong? (I’d honestly love you too TBH)

Collect from your location

Blag a bike box from LBS. Lots of bubble wrap or similar is handy. Pedals off, bars off and taped to top tube, wheels off and either side of the frame with cardboard between, rear mech off and taped to chainstay. That should just about do it. Some bike boxes are bigger than others. IIRC Cannondale use massive ones.

Neither of those “send it now” quotes include insurance (other than the basic £50), £1000 is an extra £37, the max £2450 is an extra £87 off-hand?
Admittedley for a set of 2nd hand forks £250, it a reasonable £5 – will be using them in the future for this.

Do you really not insure your kit when you send it away?????

Parcelmonkey have relatively cheap insurance, but the ordering process is a bit crap.

I use GWizz Couriers – only £1 for up to £2000 cover. Recently sent a bike with them and it was only £9.00.

Just for casculating the insurance seeing as z1ppy has a bee in his bonnet about the cost of sending a bike by courier. That was all.

Well Rickos – see above – less than a tenner to ship a bike including £1 for £2000 worth of cover, for £15 you can have up to £4000 worth.

oh righto!! 1200 quid ¬ most ive ever spent on a bike

Hmm… I’m running into bother with the dimensions here, it seems like the dimensions of a bike box exceed those that most carriers will take, anyone else found this?
