    Hi ,

Unfortunately when I went to bleed my xt brakes the bleed screw on the right hand lever wouldn’t budge and I ended up rounding it off with a cheapo allen key .

Have hacksawed a slot to use a screwdriver but that’s not budging it either .

Any other ideas ? I hope this does not mean I need a new lever.

Also can anyone with these brakes check what direction the bleed screw on a right hand xt m785 lever unscrews as I have a feeling I might be turning it the wrong way .

    Cheers ,

    J

Standard right hand thread on both levers.
Take it to someone who knows what they’re doing before you do any further damage.

I got some spare bleed bolts. Email me if you want one in the post. Iainjagger@gmail.com

Tip one. Throw away all crap hex keys and buy some decent ones so it doesn’t happen again.
Tip 2 I usually try and tap in a torques bit and they have more side to bite into whatever is left.
Tip 3 – sounds like you have already done this and cut a groove.
    Good luck.

Do you have a (good quality) torx bit that is just the right size to tap into the rounded bolt? By “right size” I mean that it basically cuts it’s way into the bolt so it’s now a snug fit.

If so, then do that then try heating the lever body as it’s alloy and will expand more quickly than the bolt (I’d try using boiling water) and try undoing the bolt. Might be easier with it off the bike if you have to work on it indoors!
You could try the same thing but with a screw extractor, but I have no idea if you could get one tht is small enough. (https://www.stationaryengineparts.com/eazi-out-set-814-0.html)

    Hopefully I’ve made sense!

Thanks for the ideas , eventually got it off by cutting a wider slot and using a bigger flat head screwdriver , lidl allen keys have a new home in the bin

    Glad you got it sorted.
