Can anyone confirm if that monstrosity of a shift window is removable on the (non OEM) XT 11 speed shifter? Is there a cover underneath?

    Yes and No.

    I used electrical tape.

    Hmm. That’s a bit of a pain. It’s a hideous thing.

Me too. It’s hidden by the brake lever / bar on my setup, so very hard to notice.

Yeah – in the crap weather I ride in (and this would be a winter bike) I’m not keen on an electrical tape solution.

Fella on here made some custom caps, was offering them for sale a day or two ago.

The official cover isn’t waterproof, so the tape is probably a better option if you are worried about it. Gorilla tape ftw.

OF course, a proper cover would look better. After fitting, I’ve never seen the pieces of tape on my new 2×11 XT setup. They are totally hidden by the bars / brake levers.

Having said that, I’ll probably buy some covers when they become available. If a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing properly.

Who actually uses the indicator?, it’s either the right or wrong gear!. If it’s aimed at novices then it’s probably not the best idea to distract them 🙄

Cheers for the reminder to order one 🙂

I use the indicator, actually find it quite useful, especially if I’m on a difficult techy climb and want to know how far up the block I am without taking my eye off the trail to glance down to look at the block.

I’d rather know that I’ve either got a couple of sprockets to play with than risk making a shift and messing up cadence or losing momentum.

Don’t really see what the big deal is….the pro’s have em on their Di2, if it wasn’t worth having they would carry the extra grams.

Do you have to look at the gear stick on your car too then?.

    Strange.

Ha ha. No. My car only has 7 gears and one of them makes me go backwards….

I also have a ears, allowing me to to hear how hard the engine is revving as I shuffle along which helps me decide whether I need to change gear. My car is also fitted with revolutionary device on the dash, you may not have heard of it……. called a rev counter to let me know where the car is in relation to its power band and whether it could be more efficient.

If you want to minimalist on on your bars….get rid of your gears and ride single speed.

Thanks for the part number fibre. Doesn’t look like anywhere has them in stock. Anyone know the fella selling the custom made caps please?

When the shimano ones become available, I’m sure I’ll buy some. But in all seriousness, I’ve currently got some small pieces of gorilla tape covering the holes. The bars / brakes cover it anyway and I’d wager that the tape is more weatherproof anyway.
