I’m after a XS or Small MTB for my lad for Xmas. He has outgrown his 24inch wheel hardtail and his appetite for riding is growing.

he’s 146cm tall and I started looking at an XS rockhopper. With discounts its still £600 or more for a hardtail with suspension?

Has anyone got any suggestions as to an alternative? I keep reading about all the excess stock, but haven’t found anything much cheaper.

any suggestions for an xmas bargain? I’m not overly fussed on the brand.

    thanks.

Had similar dilemma when my son outgrew his 24inch wheeled bike.

Ended up doing a project build with him over the winter. Started with a 26inch xs giant xtc carbon frame. Donations from friends plus a few other parts purchases have him riding a carbon wheeled hardtail with bombers up front. Cost about £300 plus some thank-you beers.

Second hand is the way to go at that budget.

Got my daughter’s XS Saracen Mantra Trail – female version. Grew out of it a long while back, and barely rode it when she did fit it.
Appreciate that the women’s version may be an issue, but only differences from standard version were saddle and colour.

Looks like a smaller version of this.

Has upgraded DT X1900 wheels run tubeless with Maxxis tyres and a dropper post.

Happy with £300 delivered if of any interest.

    Cheers, Dave.

We’ll be selling my son’s bird am which has a small frame. 27.5″ wheels, 120mm travel and has been great for him, still is, for a few years. He’s 13 now and getting on for 160+cm tall.

Once my wife’s bike is delivered he’s getting her current one, so it’ll be for sale. We’re based in Lancashire if it’s something you’d be interested in?

I’ve known a few young lads riding the Trott MTB1, fairly neutral colours considering it’s officially a womens-specific bike. We have 2 in the family for my daughters, great little bikes with a good base spec (NX 1×11 and suntour air forks) and modern geometry. Our 2 have upgraded wheels, tyres and cranks and come in under 25lb
