    Morning
Brought a bike with the above fork on, never had any x fusion forks before. They are currently set at 140mm and want to drop then down to 120, looked on YouTube and seems simple enough. I’ve then found out about the tool to remove and re install the damper rod from the lowers which has made me a little less confident. Upgrade bikes has one for £10. Removal seems simple. Do you use the tool to pull to rod back into the lowers as if you try the same with the foot nut it will pull the threads out of it?

It’s also got a fair bit of top out knock, any known issues? I’m not overly concerns about it, lock out and rebound etc work. It’s litrally a bike which my wife will use with the kids on fire roads etc

Yes. The tool has the threads machined to the end to much easier to push the threaded bit of the damper rod into the lowers for removal and pull back out. The normal nut is very fragile

Also- lock the damper out before removing the lowers, as this makes it much easier to put the lowers back on again

Have you seen the Cotic video on adjusting travel – I followed this for doing my sweeps – without any special tools.

Just serviced my McQueen HLR without the special tool. Used a 4.5mm socket fitted over the rebound shaft so I could drive the damper out without damage to the rebound shaft. Refitting was simple by locking out the damper and minimum rebound. Refit the damper side footnut first then the air spring side. You can put a bit of air in the spring to help push the rod out. There is a good thread on MTBR.

I disassembled my old Sweeps several times with out that tool, set the damping to the slowest before starting and fully extend the damper & airspring rods and it was easy.

I made a pin wrench from some steel rod to undo the cap on the airspring and you’ll need the right size drift to drift out the pin through the airshaft

I’ve done the socket trick for removal, and for installation found a long chain ring bolt with the correct thread pitch and some washers to pull the threaded rod through the lower.

Apparently some SRAM chainring bolts will do the job. My Shimano didn’t work. I ended up getting the tool though.really simple to change the travel.

Quick update, I brought the tool as was only £10, it isn’t the correct one for this fork so did the same as above, rebount shaft tapped out with a socket. The threads on the shaft are larger than the tool so it’s no good for pulling the shaft back into the lowers

The travel adjust isn’t the same as what I’ve seen on YouTube or the cotic video, it’s adjusted via a c clip on the air shaft which is hidden under heat shrink. Got the travel changed and back together, I locked off rebound and tapped the lowers with a rubber mallet the get the shaft to seat more in the lowers and the air side I just added air and guided the shaft into the lowers with a small screw driver

I’m planning on a lowers service on my Trace 36, but can’t seem to get the Xfusion oil here in Oz. What are people using for the lowers?

If it’s just for lubrication in the lowers you can use any fork oil.
