Wot no GCSE Thread?

Sorry if I’ve missed it. Surely must be a few people whose lids got their results today…

Due to the bizarre English system of having to turn up in person at the school to get them in person, we don’t know what our son got, other that it was enough to get into sixth form… so averaging above a six, which is a start I guess.

Anyone else?

Daughter got what she needed to go on to an A Level equivalent Art course at college.

Been a frantic week what with my son getting A level results too.

Godson just missed out on one of his grades, but did enough to get into 6th form. Really pleased for him, struggles with dyslexia and confidence issues as a result.

My daughter has been tutoring her friend who failed Maths GCSE 2 years ago grade 1. She’s not daft but has had a lifetime of being told “you can’t do maths” leading to exam anxiety. Anyway she called yesterday to say her she got grade 4 on retake, which enables her to continue her health and care qualification and invited us all round on Saturday for a family BBQ to celebrate, happy days.

Pleased with my lad, he was very well self-disciplined throughout covid as I knew it would be teacher assessed grades (TAGS) early on. I told him to play the game and gave him a good steer.

9999998765 is a good outcome and he is off to do the A levels he wants.

I was born in 69, a HR officer had to check with her manager what an O level was when I gave her my certificates to check

Born in 62 and took one of the first GCSE’s in Tech drawing in what is now referred to as year 11.

Got back from holiday now.
Apart from 7s in English, he’s done really well.

GCSEs were first introduced in 1988, so your chronology doesn’t appear to add up.

! You do know a 7 is an A in old money don’t you?
Interesting weekend where lots of friends with privately educated children seemed to think of 9s as Simply A with no knowledge of the 8 A* and 9A** status. And therefore by implication thought of 6/7 as a poor result. Is this a deliberate thing with private schools?
