Zarf – the proper name for that bit of plastic/cardboard with a handle on that you sit your plastic/cardboard beaker of coffee into when it’s too hot to hold.
Strictly speaking it should be called a podstakannik when you’ve got tea rather than coffee, but i think zarf is a much nicer work.
glaikit – a beautifully expressive work for someone who looks a bit dim
I overheard a discussion beween a radiologist and a junior doctor the other day in which the radiologists suggested that the patient needed a follow up exam called a “ridiculogram“. Don’t know if he was taking the [swear filter avoidance blocked] or not.
the gloaming – that period in summer when the sun has gone down yet there’s still a strangely romsntic greyish light, sufficient to go roaming in.
Second “fisticuffs” and “dust-up” (yes, I know, hyphenated and all that) but my favourite word of the last ten years or so is “shenanigans”…it can be used to describe all sorts of stuff.
