I’m upgrading components on a flat bar hybrid running 2×9 Sora with trigger shifters.
I was planning just to upgrade the right shifter, rear mech, cassette and chain to 11sp.
Q: Will the 11sp chain run properly on the 9sp front rings and mech? Would prefer to avoid the cost of upgrading these if possible

The internal width of a 11 speed chain is the same as 9 speed – 2.29mm – it’s the external width that varies.
This could be a problem with a double chainring as the chain could jam between the rings as it’s wider so make sure you ease off the pedals as you shift

No issues. Running 11 speed chain on 9 speed chainrings. 50/34.As they are much cheaper than fancy 11 speed stuff. And tend to last better as they are steel instead of alloy.

    Cheers!
    I.

Ta folks. Will give it a go. Can always change the double later if needed – but hopefully not!

Your front mech may not work the best.
