    Afternoon

So the rear suspension on my 2015 Whyte T130 is ok but not exactly the plushest I’ve ever felt. There’s a tad of harshness about it that whilst not really a big problem does make me think it could be better.

Would an upgrade to the rear shock make any difference? Something like a CCDB Air perhaps? They seem to be highly rated. Or maybe just get the existing Rockshox Monarch tuned? Or just ignore it and ride more?

    Thoughts/opinions?

have you got the shock set up properly to start with or do you just want somthing a bit more bling (nowt wrong with that)

Setup – dunno really. How do you define what is right? I’ve played with the pressure and rebound settings a bit. To get it feeling “plush” and to get full travel I seem to need to run it with a fair bit of sag (30-40%) but that seems to defeat the purpose of having the travel there in the first place.

Bling is nice but not the main reason. Wouldn’t want something bling that doesn’t actually improve performance.

is it a standard can or debonair? if its a standard can then the spring rate is too great so a debonair can would be worth trying. If its a debonair can then check to see if there are any volume reducers in theair can.

are you only getting full travel on the big jumps but getting 70-80% for most of the trail? what weight are you and what trails are you riding on?

Yes it’s Debonair. However that comes from the factory. Not sure how to check for volume reducers but will see what Mr Google says.

Yeah something like that. I’m 178cm and about 82kg (does not include riding gear, I’m taller in a helmet ;-).

That sounds OK to me…although the sag does seem a bit much…I’m about 25% sag on mine…seems to work fine but I may need another click of rebound however the shock and fork.are both much plusher than the fox items on the old Whyte…

Perhaps just needs a tune…cheaper than a whole new shock…

I’m only 65KG and find i use about 90% travel on most rides with 25% sag. Also find it really plush.
