Whinlatter or Grizedale?

Got a chance of a quick ride while on a family holiday in the lakes in April, which or the above would be better for a quick blast around, possible leaving wife and child in\around the visitors centre for a walk?

If you insist on a trail centre, then definately Whinlatter. But IMO the best option would be the natural stuff around Grizedale. Wife and kids can still go to the centre. Stay off the NFT and go au natural instead

What yeti guy said. The bridleways around the grizedale forest are great. Easy to make up a route for a couple of hours. The marked trail at grizedale is very disappointing.

But if you go to Whinlatter, you should really do the Hobcarton descent off Grisedale Pike (so you can do Whinlatter and Grisedale!) Top of SOuth Loop, head off piste to the fence then head upwards, can't go wrong.

Cheers, I did a bridleway route across grizedale a few years ago ( Breasty Haw I think) and it was fun. I'll look for possible routes online.

Blagers – You want to be looking for breasty haw, parkamoor and the descent to high nibthwaite.

If you're just sticking to waymarked routes, Whinlatter is MUCH better than the NFT, But, if you can get some route maps or local knowledge, Grizedale is FAR better, you could try at Biketreks [/url]for route info or see if anybody is riding on the day/s you fancy on Ride The Lakes [/url].

If your gonna go to grizedale, plan a route first to take in some of the good bridleways.

You could do NFT first climb > top of parkamoor > down parkamoor to nibthwaite > road upto Stock Farm area > bridleway down to ickenthwaite > onto Satterthwaite > Breasty Haw > Road to the fox run > Up the fox run > Along fireroad then down the rocky track to the visitors centre.

Would probably take a couple of hours but theres loads of stuff you can sling together for a decent ride out.

Whinlatter 100 times over Grizedale NFT! There's more fun to be had and is still a lovely place for your wife and child with lots to do 🙂 Plus the chocolate orange cake at the cafe is WELL worth the trip! 🙂 Enjoy which ever you chose!
