  • Which energy supplier? Alternatives to the big six?

Following on from this thread I’m looking to change energy supplier. Electricity only (there is no gas – rural Northumberland). Interested in green, customer service and value in that order. Any recommendations?

Good Energy. They do the job for us and given your list seem to tick the boxes.

We switched to https://www.gbenergysupply.co.uk/ about a year ago. No issues and were the cheapest for us.

Been with Robin Hood for a year or so… happy so far. Supposedly not-for-profit.

Ovo for us due to the 3% savings scheme.

Never needed to have contact with them though.

M&S came out close to cheapest for us. All hydro-electric (although it’ll come via the dirty soup of the National Grid). No idea what their CS is like, I never call them.

I’m with Ovo and very happy with them, prior to that I was with Ebico who again were excellent but prices were better at Ovo, Ebico have a more ethical stance if that appeals.

We’re with Ovo; no complaints, was cheaper and less faff than EDF.

Their maths can be weird, though; we’re less than a month from finishing our first year, but their estimate for how much they think we’ll spend in said year is way higher than reality, but at the same time their recommended DD amount is less than we’re paying now. It makes no sense, but it doesn’t really matter and their website provides plenty of information to look yourself, so meh…

I’m with bulb link[/url] and they have been great. Renewable sources for electric and we are paying 60 quid in a two bed flat. before it was 100 odd.

    first rate service too.

Was with Ovo on their suggested monthly cost, then was in credit by a large whack so started to drawn down on it before the end of the contract – and it paid interest as well, their renewal wasn’t competitive so gone to First Utility.

Also cashback via Quidco uswitch or whatever it is

If you were on a pre-payment meter ( they were already in the house when we moved in ) and wanted to move to change the meters and move to direct debit who would be good to move to?

Recently switched to So Energy. Was with Ovo for several years and was very happy with them, but recent renewal price against what So Energy were offering was too great to pass up.

The switch process was easy, and So Energy’s website and communications are decent so don’t feel as though I’ve lost out in this way (Ovo also very good in this respect).

We switched to Ovo from NPower last year and now NPower have under cut them by almost 20%. So we’re going back.

The customer service at NPower is iffy but the saving is £160 over 12 months.

Ovo – lovely comms & service but then we were with BGas & Southern Electric so being better & cheaper wasn’t that hard.

Thanks folks. Plenty to look into there.

M&S energy is supplied by SSE, which is reason enough to avoid.

Money Saving Expert are doing one of their collective negotiations the week after next, that might result in a cheaper deal than you can get elsewhere (or might not).

Sounds like a lot, we pay £56/month for gas & electric in a 3 bed uninsulated Victorian house (solid walls and gaping chasm under the floors)…

Ovo have been breath of fresh after a similar but different horror story with Scottish Power. Shout if you want a (naked self interest) referral code 🙂

Cheers Steve, I might take you up on that. Trouble is I still haven’t had the original problem sorted. I’m not sure whether to persist with SP until it’s done or go to a new supplier with the problem.
